I have heard rumors of blizz doing away with factions. in my opinion, that would kill the game ! what do you think?
It would be great. Factions are the least interesting part of the game. Nor did they have an impact on my character creation back in classic wow.
It would be liberating for content creation to not be limited to two themes.
I don’t think factions will be removed due to the portal room and that its way too much of an effort for Blizzard to implement.
Best thing they could manage is include a feature where both factions can raid together.
I doubt it. I would assume there will be some cross-faction play, likely PvE (and perhaps some PvP), but I REALLY do not expect the Factions to be done away with altogether.
That sounds like too much work to remove the factions. If anything Blizzard would add one or two more factions. Those two factions would be the fracturered parts of the Horde and the Alliance. Where you got the Honorable Horde, Sylvanas Horde, Peaceful Alliance, Tyrande Alliance. That or the Peaceful Alliance and Honorable Horde joint into one faction to make it a 3 way faction.
Too much of the game is built around factions. I just cannot see a future in THIS game where the factions are done away with. Wouldnt surprise me if they implement cross faction gameplay (dungeons/raids) in the next expanaion or two though.
Should they ever realease a WoW2 at some point then yes i can see factionless gameplay.
I think it would be the best possible thing that could happen to the game, but it won’t happen. It’s just wishful thinking.
If it means individual races get more development and time in the spotlight, then factions be damned.
The faction conflict works best as a cold war kind of situation imo. I think a tense relationship between the Alliance and Horde where they are occasionally poking at each other would be much better than the current situation.
If nothing else, BFA has showed that Blizz lacks the writing ability to tell a satisfying war story between 2 factions that are both playable.
Just my 2 cents though.
They wont … if anything would damage racial identity it would the homogenization of the two factions. You want “Human Potential” … because a true Faction Merger on a story level is how you get “Human Potential”?
I prefer having the factions.
That said, Blizzard has been handling factions so badly lately that having them may actually be a detriment to the game.
So, you know, either get rid of the factions or fix your writing Blizz. I know which one I’d pick, but I’m not sure you can pull it off.
I agree with you OP that I think it would kill the game as we know it.
Even so, i’m not prepared to entirely dismiss that it won’t happen, or that there won’t be changes to the games systems to allow just that. As you can see, there are some players that would welcome the change, even if it would mean ending WoW as we know it.
Blizzard can’t even write a coherent story for two factions. What makes you think they could manage more?
Its a rumor spread by very specific and prolific streamers and Youtubers not based on reality or evidence of any kind. Utter codswallop.
I would see this happening. I mean they already got something for PvP with merc mode.
I don’t think the factions as a concept would be scrubbed all together. It’d certainly be strange to be buddy-buddy after the most abhorrent thing to happen since the Burning Legion’s more recent invasion into Azeroth occurred as an instigator to start a Great War, but, mechanically, it’d certainly be possible to introduce a mechanic where factions can party together.
Anarchy Online did it, where Omni-corp, Clans and Neutrals could party up but couldn’t enter each other’s cities, I could see it happening in Warcraft.
Who i will hate without factions and call alliance dogs?
Form a guild of Worgen and call them Alliance Dogs.
Factions cannot be removed, but I wouldn’t be surprised to see faction become a choice for all races, similar to how it is for Pandaren, with the difference being every other race chooses their faction in character creation, and those going to a faction opposite their race’s original faction would start at Unfriendly or Neutral with the reputations of the other side.
There might be some exceptions to that. Goblins would probably be neutral with the Alliance, maybe belves. I could see Dark Irons and Velves potentially being the same if choosing to join the Horde.
Says who? There were no factions in the alpha, it was a last minute addon. If anything, its just more work than they are willing to put in a dying game.
