Wanted to get a feeling for this in 2025. Anyone else wondering if and when the faction war will come back? Kind of take the war out of warcraft. I get the villains and enemies the world faces, but that was always there. Just a thought
I donât think it will honestly. The story/game has sadly moved past that it seems.
It died with BFA, and we buried it face down with Shadowlands and âcosmologyâ and robots with nipples and giga mega ultra existential threats.
Faction war wasnât inherently bad, but it draws out a special sort of stupid from the playerbase where youâve got those special people simultaneously crying about Camp Taurajo while insisting that we need another burnt World Tree, a few more Paths of Glory, Brennadam, and another mana bomb on Theramore.
I suppose Iâm at peace with it being dead. But it wouldâve been nice if we didnât mangle the lore so hard.
Think they all but confirmed there will be more faction stuff in the future, just not sure when or what itâll look like
I sincerely never cried about Camp Taurajo, I used it as motivation in PvP.
Now, itâs feet.
Iâd honestly be more horrified if the creature puppeteering the elf corpse didnât have feet.
In the campaign the leaders of the Alliance and Horde note how fragile the peace between them is and thats why it took so long to get back to the isle of dorn so maybe thereâs going to be some influential splinter groups going forward?
Take your bets everyone! Is the Warsong going to chop down more trees? Will former Scarlet Crusade agitate for the destruction of the Forsaken? Tune in next time on Dragon Ball Z!

In my opinion the faction war died with MOP,BFA,SL⌠Horde took too many loses and now Thrall is in charge weâre never going to war.
it wonât.
also, this thread will devolve into pure nonsense by post 50. as all âneed moar faction warâ threads do.
Thrall was raised to be a human.
Despite what people say I donât think the faction is tired or played out. Thereâs tons of interesting stories or character drama you can get out of the concept.
However I think itâs clear that you canât write a story like that for a game when the players see themselves as ideologically aligned with either faction. When thereâs a good guys and edgelord faction like in Star Wars The Old Republic, arguements over right and wrong are meaningless. When you try to make both sides of a war âthe good guysâ you may get a poignant take on the futility of armed conflict but your also get a seedbed of toxicity that never goes away.
So yeah, ditch the faction war. Good concept, doesnât work in practice.
In before someone manages to make it political
Itâs a strong concept when it works but for so long it was âenemies until we arenâtâ again and again.
I could see us going back âlore-wiseâ with the caveat that players can still group/raid/pvp together.
for the record, and I always say this in every âneed moar faction warzâ thread:
I donât want any more Faction War because we have seen how Faction War goes with Blizzard writers.
The Horde gets assaulted with the Villain Bat and demonized. The Perfect, Noble, Honorable, Never-Does-Anything-Wrong-Ever Alliance and a small band of Horde rebels gathers outside Orgrimmar to siege it to dethrone the Mustache-Twirling Irredeemably evil Horde Faction War Villain of the moment. Horde players are given no choice or agency and are forced by the campaign to participate in the Villain Batting until it is time to Siege Orgrimmar.
Followed by a bunch of forum rp of Alliance Profile Pictures telling Horde Profile Pictures âHUR DUR YER DA BAD GUYZ WHAT YO EXPECTâ
Itâs the only Faction War story that Blizzard is capable of telling, and we have seen it twice already and we donât need to see it again.
Iâd rather just do away with Factions altogether and focus on World-Ending Cosmic threats for the rest of forever.
I think it can be done again and it doesnât need to be make Horde bad and Alliance good or the opposite. I think it can be as simple as one side canât stand the other for territory reasons, etc. They can go back to disputing that and maybe thatâll work? Maybe like the end of Warcraft where Garona kills King Llane in order to create some kind of peace at the order of the King. That would build up the story of Alliance hating Horde for what they did, although it was a misunderstanding, and Horde hate Alliance because they donât understand. Also, that can snowball into bigger conflicts that stems from that one idea. Even if the truth comes out, their differences and problems that wouldâve arose from that would have put them at greater odds than ever before. Im ranting at this point lol but idk just ideas
No more faction wars. Play classic for that.
Hopefully never. It hasnât made sense since WotLK, made even less sense after Pandaria.
Every other attempt to bring it back has been hamfisted and stupid. Let it go already. WarCraftâs main conflict hasnât been Horde/Alliance since WarCraft 2.
Every release from Vanilla through BFA had alliance murder quests. Conflict was everywhere in dialogue.
Now Iâm taking orders from Alliance NPCs? It feels wrong and I hate it.
