Faction mentality

I want to hear from people who play on both sides if there’s any real difference to how the two sides function.

I have pretty much always played alliance once I discovered you had to be alliance to play a paladin in vanilla. I always pick a paladin or paladin-type class first in any game I play if I can. For RP reasons. I don’t PVP much, if at all. I wanted to try out the horde side to experience their quests and zones better, but since I couldn’t play a paladin, I chose not to for classic. Now with the advent of BC being re-released I would be able to do that.

However I am wondering what difference there might be to how people act when they play on the other side. As much of the boorish attitude as I see on the forums here, I really don’t need that while playing the game. Thanks for any input.

In case I’m not clear enough. This is strictly about PVE content on a PVE server Thanks.

i played Ally in original wow and bc. Horde definitely work together better now than ally did back then. But this might also just be folks understanding the game better.

The AB rotations i was seeing yesterday in my pug match where amazing. Never saw that years ago.

Alliance think that Horde are cry babies, and Horde think that Alliance are cry babies. Both have evidence to back their claims and both are right.

I’ve found horde players to be more mature, but that’s just been my experience. Some say that kids play allies and others say that kids want to play the cool zombies, so I’m going off of what I’ve experienced rather than my own reasoning.

That’s my response to the faction mentality question. As far as gameplay goes, I like playing horde and I like playing alliance. There are cool races and starting zones on both sides.

Alliance player = Human

Horde player = Human

Literally the same. The same broad spectrum of attitudes and play-styles exist within both factions.

I have heard these things as well. I’ve always been able to join guilds with a mature minded mentality. Idiots get kicked quick. My guild in vanilla had people of all ages in it, and people from at least 20 different countries from every continent. It was a great guild that dipped their hands into every aspect of the game. I’m hoping to be able to find that kind of mentality in a guild also if I chose to go horde in BC.

VERY BLANKET GENERALIZATION:

Alliance: Aesthetics and PvE. Paladins are REALLY strong PvE and we have pretty elves.

Horde: PvP and the more “hardcore” Warcraft fans. FOR THE HORDE and all that, will of the forsaken, hardiness, etc.

This all gets turned on its head of course in BC when both factions get all classes. I’m pretty sure in retail Horde is most popular. All the endgame major top guilds are horde.

Not true for everyone obviously.

In my subjective opinion, for the most part Alliance and Horde players are the same.

However, I do feel that there are some personality types that are over-represented on either faction.

For example, the max level rogue who camps low level areas seems to be stereotypically Undead.

The type of person who consistently underperforms and would like to berate others for caring about performance, seems to be drawn to Retribution Paladins.

Not saying that all Ret Paladins are like this, nor that all UD rogues are representative of lowbie campers, just that those stereotypes seem to exist (to me).

Having said that, it also feels like the type of person who is loyal to a group, tends to be over-represented on Horde. Whereas the type of person who tends to complain, give up, and suggest others give up tends to be over-represented on Alliance. Again, this is my personal and subjective opinion.

There may be several factors that contribute to my own personal biases with regards to my having such an opinion. I am not claiming that my opinion is accurate nor factual. Simply that this appears to me, to be the case.

Stay at home moms don’t play horde unless they don’t really “stay at home.”

Interesting feedback. Thank you.

I’d say that if faction mentality was ever a thing it was in the old days of MMORPGs, if ever. I never really bought into it though, I remember hearing people QQ about the other faction all the time in the old days.

Everyone has a particular fantasy that tickles their fancy, in Vanilla that may have been more pronounced due to shamans v paladins, good v evil, orc v human, etc, but neither side is more inherent to being bigger crybabies or losers or whatever. Whenever I played Alliance it was the same thing you saw on horde. I haven’t played Alliance seriously since MoP though.

I’ve played both sides from Vanilla up until now. They’re exactly the same in terms of player personalities. The only difference is that horde vastly out numbers the alliance on most realms, but that isn’t really a factor on a pve server.

I’ve played both factions ever since I started playing in 2006, though I eventually ended up more Alliance on Retail and am slightly more Horde on Classic. PvE it is a lot more likely the same kinds of people play both.

People are people.

I don’t really find that people act all that different based on the faction they play on a PvE realm.

Excessive generalization, but Alliance always felt younger to me, the age where someone thinks they’re mature because they talk about sexual things and use bad language, the kind of “mature” to expect in so-called 18+ guilds that say they don’t censor.

 And, then again, that’s pre-BC. When they added a so-called pretty race to the Horde, a lot of former Alliance jumped over. Which means both sides felt about the same.

While I have always heard kids play alliance, and I won’t dispute it, I have run into many adults also. It seems like I should be okay to play horde without any more concern than playing on alliance as far as how people act. Hopefully I’ll be able to find a good guild to play in in BC. Thank you to everyone who has responded.

Horde flight points>Alliance flight points

Alliance are missing so many important flight points to get to a variety of places. I never had an issue getting anywhere I needed to be with horde FPs. Western PL and STV are two shining examples of this.

Zepplins>Boats. Menethil really… RATCHET is right there.

Salvation is a god send however because no one wants to run tranquil air.

People are people.

I would say it’s the opposite, but it’s pretty close to 50/50.
