More than gold - I’m thinking like…super heartwrenching trash items that you can read, little cosmetic stuff, or mounts and pets.
i.e. Anduin Wrynn.
Drops:
Compass portrait of Varian Wrynn. This compass is well worn from use, and the words “be strong” are scratched into it.
His cool Horse model.
Kill him enough times to get his armor set.
High Overlord Saurfang
Dropped:
kThis Horde Service medal has a large crack riven through it, but it has been carefully held together with fine twine and Orcish Funeral beads.
Saurfang’s Arcanite ReaperThough the properties of Arcanite have been far since surpassed, one cannot argue the success of this weapon.
Faded drawingthis scrap of cloth has some rudimentary ink drawings upon it - it appears to be an orcish family. Something is scrawled shakily across the bottom in smudged charcoal.
Genn Greymane
Drops:
Dented Locket. You plucked this from the old wolf’s neck, it appears to have never left his side. A young man looks confidently out of the frame, sporting red-tinged hair and glittering eyes.
Broken Arrowhead knifeAn arrowhead, snapped off at the shaft. It has been fashioned into the point of a wicked knife.
Genn’s Engraved Flask *A flask depicting a map of Gilneas. This is an extremely, extremely potent alcoholic beverage. *
Calia Menethil
Drops:
Crown of Terenas IIIt’s been mended many times, and though it still misses its jewels, it gleams wonderfully. You feel extremely uncomfortable holding it.
Portrait of the Lich KingA young boy with long blond hair tends to a horse, laughing and nearly toppling over.
Engraved Arrow ShaftA preserved arrowshaft, sans head. The words “Resilient, steadfast, we will overcome” Are engraved upon it.
You get achievements and a bear mount after you kill the faction leaders collectively already in addition you succeed in annoying the living hell out of whoever is in the city for a good five to ten minutes and screw up any quests that start or turn in with them for lowbies until they respawn.
Adding in rng loot would turn inconvenience into a griefing complaint as people would continue to loot pinata until the item they want dropped. Interesting idea but bad for the game.
I mean to balance them you’d make it ridiculously hard to kill them. I know they’re already tough but we’re talking end raid boss mechanics and damage, and an immense amount of health. It’d more be a reward for doing something so out of the way and hard to acheive.
Good point - however the idea behind this would be to enhance the impact. These items are meant to flesh out a little more of what’s going on in that character’s head - of course they don’t canonically die, but we’re getting a glimpse of what they carry with them - so we know what’s at stake for them each time they charge into battle.
I’d like that too. I didn’t even think of that - goodness that’d be awesome!!! Like you’ve gotta sneak around the opposite faction’s cities to find these items!!!
Also I don’t like the idea of items that matter dropping from something that can be, arguably, difficult to pull off depending on your server.
Fth/fta almost never work on my servers because a counter army shows up which is a good thing not complaining.
So you want to take something already difficult due to player interference and make them as hard as bosses like Jaina, ghuun, denathrius, and other end of raid bosses?
I support this even less now. Fth/fta would basically be impossible.
1.) Then why do it?
2.) Unique armor, weapons, and mounts don’t matter? Then you’d be OK with all old raids being closed off for good? It’s just nit like mounts, armor, and weapons matter right?
Stuff like that 100% does matter to a lot of players out there, some people play this game just for collecting.
…or perhaps we can locate these items from our own faction and gain a pet for the collection of these hidden items? Such as an achievement called ‘Number one fan’ for collecting faction specific items. Could locate even more items from older characters such as Lirath Windrunner.
I mean…that’s not what i meant? Like sure they’ll matter to some people - but I mean, invincible matters to me and i STILL haven’t gotten it to drop after what…7+ years now?
Stuff like that can be hard to get because it’s not essential to gameplay is all. It can take time. Heck it might be good for it to. we all need some stretch goals.
The difference is I can blow a burp at Arthas and he dies.
You want to make fta/fth, a fight that can be interrupted by literally every Alliance/Horde player, into a raid boss encounter as difficult as end of raid bosses which are arguably the hardest in the raid most of the time.
You know these would not be guaranteed drops either, it’s blizzard we are talking about, so you’d have low drop rates on a very very difficult encounter.
Think about it, at least right now if you have enough warm bodies to yeet at them you will eventually win if no defenders show up.
But your way now requires knowing an intricate fight and being able to pull it off while under attack by other players who know you need to do that and how to mess you up.
