Faction Help

Hey guys! So right before shadowlands came out my group of friends migrated horde mostly because as most of you are probably aware the alliance is slowly bleeding out. High end guilds keep leaving and in turn alot of players follow to try and be “meta”. That was the case with my friends. They wanted a better community that horde has to offer, but myself idk if I can convince myself to go with them.

The horde aesthetic hasn’t appealed to me really aside from blood elf and nightborne architecture. The wood huts full of spikes has never been my thing and that’s basically what you see everywhere horde side. Not only that the horde are in my experience pretty much the “evil” faction. They have committed genocide multiple times just because someone says for the horde and gets them riled up. They destroyed their planet then came to azeroth to take over. The trolls basically have always wanted to take over cus they consider azeroth theirs. The undead are basically just angry at the living because they are dead. The goblins are only out to make profit so they will do literally whatever pays. The only races I can get behind horde side are blood elves, nightborne, and Tauren.

Ik people have their own headcanon that the horde are just underdog races trying to band together just to survive, but blizzard obviously has a different view in mind for them. The horde is always the aggressors. If they were just trying to survive they wouldn’t constantly start war and stir up conflict and would actually try to maintain peace. The alliance is imo the stronger faction for sure because not only are they ahead technology wise, they also have major power house characters even though blizz never let’s them do anything outside of their books.

I’m aware blizz isn’t the best at writing stories. They leave alot of plot holes and are super wishy washy with their directions, but this is where I stand currently on my views faction wise. Can you guys try to convince me to switch them? Maybe tell me things I’ve over looked? Tell me why I should give horde a chance so I can play with my friends, or rather help convince me to give horde a chance.

But, what about the vulpera?

They are relatively new so I’ll give them the benefit of the doubt, but I’ve never been a fan of small races and I dont wanna be a furry :stuck_out_tongue:

Also I’m one of those weirdos that likes to play humans in games haha

Anyone have any advice for me?

No you’re already the perfect race.

I was a Horde main for most of BfA. It’s the opposite here in Oceania where the Alliance community is the largest one. I swapped in Shadowlands and haven’t looked back.

(Ok I do look back and remember my cutie belf, but bygones be bygones).

Wish me and my friend group all lived in Oceana would make my life so much easier haha.

I mean, there’s no rule saying you CAN’T play both factions. I mained Alliance from 2005-2016. Went to the Horde on a fresh account at that point (long story), but I did eventually work my way towards Double Agent.

The key thing I suggest to anyone playing both factions: find two classes you really like, make one your Alliance main, make the other your Horde main. It can get dull having two of the same class and needing to do the same things to keep both characters viable. Just also be aware that you’ve got to pick one of them to be your true main character.

Also, if you do roll with two of the same class, then don’t be afraid to explore other aspects of the game. If you consider an Alliance pally to be your main and you raid with that character, then consider using the Horde pally as a PvP character, a farming character, ect.

Now, I’m not sure how versed you are with the lore of Warcraft, but the one thing to keep in mind is that both sides are not clear cut heroes/villains. Every single core race in the game (excluding perhaps the pandaren) has at least one vile example that can be considered among the worse of that race. Those are generally the people that rally like minded people/fanatics to their cause, which in turn helps to fuel some of the hatred/racism felt between the two factions.

Don’t forget what Taran Zhu says in MoP: essentially every act of aggression leads to some sort of retaliation, which in turn causes a never ending chain of retaliation. Unfortunately, each time both sides come together and/or finally manage to stop fighting, someone else has to come along to ruin it.

Fellow weirdo reporting in!

I feel the same way about the Horde as you do. They seem to get ‘tricked’ a lot into doing bad things, or somehow their crimes are written off as ‘for the greater good.’

Just play both sides. It’s not like the Horde will find out and delete your Horde characters.

I mean I could try to play both sides, but then I’d have to invest alot more time than I’d like too. Plus what would I do about raiding? Join two different guilds and raid like 4 days a week? That would burn me out pretty quick I feel like.

They might - you just can’t trust those sneaky Horde!

I might have time if I sacrificed some of my Alliance alts…but that ain’t happenin’!

Yeah i don’t plan to play a bunch of alts right away either I basically wanna focus 1 or 2 characters for a while then once they are basically decked out I’ll prob move to something else.

This is why i say if VE’s ever get Paladins, i will be alliance for life. I just dont like the dorf or human aesthetic. And dont want to he a space goat.

I’m fine with most of the alliance races and much prefer the alliance aesthetic compared to the hordes. If the horde were more diverse having different types of architecture rather than huts with spikes everywhere it wouldn’t be as bad. Aside from that it’s all the things horde has done that makes me hesitant to play them. That and knowing that the alliance could probably destroy them whenever would bug me haha.

I firmly believe anyone playing exclusively one faction (regardless of which) is wasting half their subscription by playing half a game.

That said, I also recommend against following crowds or chasing ephemeral “best of the moment” classes and specs, in favor of playing as you like.

What is your priority? Playing with these people, who seem unconcerned for your enjoyment, or sticking with a factional allegiance that is meaningful to you?

Faction is hard-baked into the game code, and not going away. One or the other will always be in the underdog position. Feeling victimized on account of it is silly.

Play what you prefer, period. Make friends who like the same things. Don’t worry about other people chasing ephemeral rainbows in hopes of greener pastures on the other side.

Well 2 of the 3 friends that went horde are my real life friends and they have always preferred horde over alliance. They mostly played alliance just to play with me. The 3rd friend prefers alliance, but he wants “a better community” on the horde. He feels like he will find a better raid group and have a better time pugging things on horde.

It’s really up to you if you want to join Horde and play with you friends, of course you could always go to Mal become a Necro and build your own/ But seriously if you really want to go play with your friends who move over then go play with them.

Your character looks pretty amazing tbh. Back on topic though yeah I really wanna play the game with them I’m just hesitant too because of the things I’ve mentioned. The burning of teldrassil was awful and I’d hate to be involved with something like that, especially because I love the night elves.
