The lines between Horde and Alliance have become blurred. When will we be able to defect from our home faction and join the other one?
Everyone could play as they like with chosen allegiance. This is basically how ESO works, and it never created any problems.

Capital city, mounts, titles, BG teams, etc.
So why go through all the effort coding this?
Player choice is almost never a bad thing.
It’s not about being a bad thing. It’s about being a lot of work to do for little payoff.

Maybe I want to play a Human defector. Why would all people agree by default with the politics of the faction they were “born” into?
Probably because, statistically, the otherside probably killed a bunch of people you knew.
You mean like the Zandalari during MoP?
Because there literally isn’t a point to factions in WoW.
In the end every raid is both factions doing exactly the same thing. The faction conflict has never been a significant part of the lore, and when it was it was contrived and forced. The only place where faction choice even matters is whether you want friends in Orgrimmar or friends in Stormwind. And what side you want to play on in PVP battlegrounds.
I dont think its quite on par.
What I mean is it’s not as simple as flipping a switch. They’re trying to untangle the faction divide code. I am not disagreeing in principle.
My memory is quite different. I remember an entire patch cycle of slaughtering Zandalari Trolls for Blood Elf rep.
