Vanilla wow felt much more catered to the alliance side in terms of lore and quests. However raiding for Horde was different since they had shamans (some would say it was easier for them). Besides choosing which class and race to play how do you all deciding what faction to commit to?
Personally, I think you need to worry less about minor details and do what feels right. Decide on a class, then pick a race on either side that allows you to get an edge based on your play style. The chips fall where they do…

Alliance had Paladins which some might say made it easier for them too. DPS meters definitely favored Horde Melee, but progression had its ups and downs.
I’m undecided yet. I know my class, but I haven’t chosen a faction, as I played both in Vanilla.
I’m going Alliance, because WPvP as Alliance is much tougher and more unfriendly then it is on horde, also Night elf warrior male is 100% Hero bait.

I didn’t play Alliance at all until Wrath; in those days you didn’t have an entire stable of characters at max level at your beck and call…alts were a massive time investment beyond your main.
Anyway, that’s how I decided to play Alliance this time around. I haven’t seen any of that side of Vanilla WoW.
Playing horde is the way of life. If you’re unsure then alliance is probably best for you.
Almost certainly playing Alliance. I was Alliance when I started vanilla then switched to Horde about 8 months later. I was Horde for nearly 11+ years till switching back to Alliance for a bit in WOD, all of Legion and the start of BFA (quit 3 weeks after BFA though). For me I prefer all of the Alliance race choices over Horde (which means I will play all of them…over only wanting to play Undead on Horde). I’m stuck more on what class I will play this time.
There are no factions. There is alliance and those who are honor kills for alliance.

Care to give some reasons for this statement?
I’ve always played both sides and fully intend to continue doing so. Playing only one faction sometimes feels like I’m only playing part of the game. One thing I don’t recall though- I know that you couldn’t play both sides on a pvp server, but could you on a pve one? This was changed at some point, but I’m pretty sure is was well after Vanilla.
if i recall correctly, the alliance had the onxyia attunement involving revealing lady katrana prestor where as the horde just had to do a pretty standard fetch and kill quest chain. It just felt like there was more story if you played alliance.
Alliance has Gnomes. That’s all the reason anyone should need to roll Horde.

Even us alliance diehards are ashamed of gnomes. But at least we don’t have blood elves. 
Neither does the Horde in vanilla.

Alliance because pretty Night Elves and cooler cities.
Also as an avid Alliance PvPer I feel like Horde enjoy to engage more with you in the world, sometimes to a fault, but it’s more fun either way.
I will however be making a Tauren alt to enjoy Barrens chat though.
I’ll give you MC as being alliance breadcrumby with the whole princess kidnapped business and Onyxia being heavily involved in alliance politics… but what was the alliance reason for going into UBRS? I think that was horde central lorewise, and as an extension BWL, we depose the false warchief and learn he is only a pawn of Victor Nefarious and thus investigate. ZG… nuff said trolls yo. Then the AQ war effort was led by a Horde NPC… think about that lorewise, the alliance respected Saurfang as the greatest warrior of the Azeroth and ceeded leadership to him i.e they suck.
Naxx, was kinda yeah alliance themed with horde tagging along because world threatening.
The meme is alliance easymode for a reason. Blessings, fearward and weapon skill racials matching the loot tables much better.

I don’t have enough self loathing to play Alliance so the choice is easy really.
The Horde version of the Onyxia quest chain is very good, I think you just don’t remember it.
