Classic is using the Legion game engine… So… If we are to ever get a new classic server(s) once Burning Crusade comes out, could we please get just ONE that has the following features?
Guild Banks
Retail auction House
World Buffs do not function in raids.
Retail character models
Retail attack & cast animations
Personal raid loot (necessary evil)
Retail barber shop
And that’s it… Leave everything else the same. This does not need to apply to all classic servers, but please just have one and see what happens. I bet it would be the most populated one regardless of people crying “Everything same same”.
Some of those may take some time. Like they’d have to assign certain loot to certain specs. I think classic loot is too varied to be able to do personal loot.
Isn’t this what the developers of Shadowlands were going for with the leveling experience? Play through the expansion you want (or vanilla) with all the retail graphics and gameplay?
For one, retail character models are one of the more prominent reasons I play Classic and not retail. I think I can safely assure you that for almost every other one of your proposed changes, there are people out there for whom it’s a deal breaker.
Alas, vanilla azeroth was destroyed in cata and they didn’t bring it back for Shadowlands. Even with the old world accessible through Chromie, it probably wouldn’t feel the same. The whole pace and difficulty of leveling is screwed in retail – it’s just an elongated tutorial now.
Classic animations are a selling point for many people, no to that. Managing inventory space is important, collections tab hurts that and also makes getting epic mounts/epic flyers trivial on alts, losing an important gold-sink. Retail AH is great, but the same can be achieved for any interested with addons. Personal loot would be disastrous, it’s a problem in retail too, and takes power away from guilds, bad change.
As the original post, I agree to this. Thanks for the comment.
I don’t think personal loot would be disastrous. By the way, many guilds fall apart in classic because loot distributors troll their raid members by giving the drop to their friend(s), that is to say, ‘accidentally’ misreading the ‘raid points’ sheet. I believe personal loot done right would be the opposite of disastrous.
Lastly on that note, a lot of raid leaders force a loot system on to the other 30’ish members of the raid. As a holy priest, I remember my raid leader a year ago giving the tier1 bracers to our already geared out priest, because “the tier1 bracers are not best in slot”. It was a council loot system; essentially bullying. My bracers were bad and the tier piece were a nice upgrade for me, and not at all for the other priest whom didn’t even equip them (they probably sold them on the AH>.
Honestly the worst suggestion of all. Every retail animation (with the sole exception of Fire Mages) has been a complete downgrade and looks visually worse than the 2004 animations we have. It’s honestly embarrassing how terrible spells like shadow bolt, lightning bolt, shadow form, etc. look on retail in comparison to their objectively superior looks here.
Some of the new animations are of even lower quality, as hard as that is to believe. For whatever reason, Blizz has really pushed for new spell visuals to be 2-D and as low-resolution as possible, a really foolish priority given how today’s low tier hardware can run retail on ultra with ease.
