… And in all fairness I agree with fb/google. Just feels like news networks are upset you have another option then add riddled news pages that have one paragraph of text and half a dozen adds with every article broken up into 5 pages of that =/

Wait. What happened? I don’t use degenerate websites Facebook. Never have. Did they block the website? If so, good riddance. Nothing of value will be lost.
Edit: oh it’s the new media laws that Murdoch paid the government to enact. I guess even pure evil can sometimes accidentally do some good.
yeah i agree with you OP, What the australian government did was great for the people. Keeps fake news (and real news) out of their facebook feeds, and instead have to look up real news sources for the real news.
Okay so outline this clearly, because the OP wasn’t too clear:
ALL news outlets and sources considered news (including emergency services such as fire/weather/natural disaster warnings, and remember we’re approaching the same period that we have horrendous fires, which is worth noting) have been blocked from being linked in any way to Facebook.
It stems from both Google and Facebook indirectly profiteering off of Australian news outlets without handing them a dime, and allowing linking to their platform, circumventing news outlets making a profit and being able to run…and the fact that they’re enormously massive tax evaders. Google came to the table however. Facebook didn’t because Zucc is an impetulant bedwetter.
This has also extended to non-news business pages, small businesses, which will suffer – that’s the nature of the beast.
It’s a great change, but as mentioned in my bracketed text, there are negative effects to it.
(I personally haven’t used Facebook for 5 years or so and I refuse to get news from Social Media.)
Yeah, this wasn’t implemented out of the good of their hearts. It was cause Murdoch basically owns the current government so he leaned on them to extort FB/Google.
Google caved. Facebook didn’t.

Unfortunately it has had some unintended victims but I’m confident that will be sorted out (bush fire alerts from official agencies etc).
Also as someone else has said, google caved. They have already entered into a deal with Nine for $30 million. Which to be fair, isn’t a lot. So they’ve only kinda caved. I imagine it was a “take it or leave it” conversation with Nine so Nine took it.
FB however needs to protect their interest. They don’t care about the law in Australia. They just don’t want the same proposed in other markets so they need it to fail here. I definitely don’t blame them for that.

Anyway, anyone going to Facebook for news doesn’t look that deeply into things anyway, now do they?
One who is after actual news gets the headline and then delves into what is happening on their own. If the headline is bogus, one will know pretty much instantly.

While this isn’t relevant to WoW. Thing is the world is watching all of this behavior. Looks bad on Facebook and other bad social media platform. It’s not gonna look like a bright year for certain companies or people.
I don’t use facebook so it doesn’t really matter to me?

I think this actually supports the idea that news, media and big business shouldn’t even be allowed on the platform.
Everything is curated for to the individual, letting corps target that is dangerous and is how things like Jan 6th in the US happen.

My opinion is Facebook is another tool used to control tools. A bleak viewpoint, but it’s there for manipulation and control. Ignorance is bliss. Again only my opinion and not truth.
I don’t have a FB nor do I look at FB so I guess it’s a “no” for me being jealous about this.

People shouldn’t get their news through Facebook anyways. It’s a good change. I say get rid of it completely (Aussie here)
