Extremely low FPS in Zereth Mortis and Empyrean Domain

My buddy and I have been trying to figure this out for 2 weeks now, with no success.

This is with a 3080 with a 5800x, so no reason this should be happening. Anytime in Zereth Mortis and in the Bastion arena Empyrean Domain, fps will drop to single digit numbers, essentially unplayable. One interesting note, if the window isn’t focused so that wow is not in the foreground, FPS goes back to normal while in the background.

What we have tried so far and maybe more that have I forgotten:
Complete reinstall
No addons
GPU drivers updated
Compute Effects disabled
Dx11 vs 12
VSync off
Other processes checked with task manager
No GPU/CPU temperature issues and throttling
Graphics settings to the lowest they go
Triple buffering
Ray Traced off

If anyone has any other suggestions, it would be very appreciated.

Does the FPS drop when you enter Spires of Ascension dungeon?

Can you run Userbenchmark before running the game and while the game is running and having that problem (and then post both URLs with results)?

I don’t think he has tested it in the dungeon.

I will get him to run that today when he’s on and reply back.

Just enter the instance and look forward. It has a long known can’t-fix issue of flooding GPU with pixels to shade which lowers FPS a lot in some cases. Same problems are in Bastion anima thingies and alike. If the drop is there then the new zone can have same problem… but still those benchmark results can help to check if the system components are ok.

It doesn’t happen in any other games, so I can’t imagine there’s a component issue. If there really is no fix for this… that’s ridiculous. Especially since it appears to be such a known common issue.

Run the userbenchmarks and so on. Other games working fine doesn’t mean there isn’t a problem with some hardware, just that it may be less likely. There are sometimes storage problems when WoW starts extracting assets from it large files and so on.

And if we don’t rule it out then the blue posts will focus on the hardware and not the game
