The solution is to stop being such a crummy community to our peers. There isn’t a tank shortage as much as there is a tank shortage in pugs.
My group of gamers I roll with never have an issue finding a healer or a tank. Almost any of us can tank. None of us feels like tanking a pug filled with belligerence, tho.

Nice cop-out. Do you also stick your head in the sand like an ostrich every time you encounter some resistance?
I never said remove tanks entirely, I simply believe a good solution would be not to require one for every dungeon run if they are in short supply enough to cause issues.
I have little skin in this, as someone who does not really care for LFD or mythics, but I do recognize a logical solution when I see it, even if that hurts some tank players’ feelings.
I don’t like tanking in pugs because 99% of dps players don’t even know how to do basic stuff. They don’t use any of their cc or interrupts and they pull stuff when everyone knows that’s the TANK’s job.

Tanks are tired of the abuse. Be nicer. Get Tank.

I too have never been a fan of ‘gimmicks’ as ‘mechanics’

Tanks have to know this stuff. I’ve been tanking for the last 5 expansions exclusively, and there is no way around it. Example, I took 5 minutes explaining the necrotic wake strategy, all spears and use them on the 3rd boss and lust and we downed him phase 1 and +2’d a 6 necrotic wake key. It’s all about pre-planning and strategy with tanking. As you do dungeons you should be developing processes and that goes for everyone else too.
this is the truth, honestly actually playing a tank is pretty fun for me, not as fun as dps but you get fast queues, runes for heroics etc.
Tanking in pugs? Not as great, lots of things to worry about and lots of time. 1. proper pulls, I’m looking at mdt a lot this week, and next week I’ll be looking at it again because it’s fortified. 2. Dungeon guides, tanks are more on the hook for boss/mob mechanics, they shouldn’t be, everyone should know them, but tanks need to know tank busters, stacks to remove, mobs to kite etc. 3. Not knowing the pug. Is this group going to cc/interrupt well? Is it worth trying big pulls or do we need single packs all the way. This last one gets worse as the season goes along and people get more geared. A +6 with 615’s in a month will be harder than a +6 with 610’s today, guaranteed.
In truth I don’t think it’s Blizzard’s problem to fix, the community is toxic to the point where it’s enough to make it less appealing to tank at all given the above mentioned. That said, if Blizzard wants to do something about it, I’d take a revert on the massive self heal and dps nerfs in TWW. Thanks!

Is this “tanks get crapped on all the time” thing mythic exclusive? Because I’ve tanked heroics for years and very rarely had people give me grief for it. Then again I also make sure to keep the pace up and tend to be more than geared to handle it.
However my mythic+ footprint is exactly zero, so I assume that’s where the toxicity really is.
Personally, the mythic level squish (0’s being the new 10’s) has made me avoid starting out. For tanking, there’s no good buffer for working on routes and counts. Maybe if mythic 0’s had a count, we could practice there, instead of doing it on the fly in an old +10.
And yes, I’m probably overthinking it, but the lack of chill in those runs has attributed to that.
It’s not there if you’re doing what you’re doing, the issue is if anything goes wrong, people aren’t toxic on smooth runs.
People in heroics maybe more just chain pull as the biggest annoyance to tanks.
In M+ people get more cranky, there’s a timer, they’re trying to gain rating and if you don’t time kiss that goodbye, the gear matters more etc.
edit: I’ll also say I’ve only had 1 toxic run out of the runs I’ve done, and it wasn’t even toxicity towards me, but I still don’t like seeing it, ymmv. People tend to be less toxic at the start of a season too when they know that everyone is learning.
I get the frustration of running a dungeon 2 months in and people don’t know mechanics and it costs you a key, but yeah it’s not healthy for the community to vent.
Yeah and I guess the consequences of failure are greater. A sluggish heroic just means a few extra minutes. A sluggish mythic can mean a lost key.
I agree, with all the toxic crap pulled on new Tanks I have seen lately who would want to roll a tank? Enjoy your shortage, you all created it.

There’s already a solution, make some friends and play with them. I don’t have an issue finding a tank.
Kicked the bad tanks out, the good ones are happily playing with buddies.
The good tanks already get a cookie, they are playing with guilds and friends.
Pug content and organized groups aren’t the same.
Most of the posters here by their own admission do not tank mythic plus. They don’t even tank at all.
Tanks that say if someone pulls I let them die. Are bad tanks unless your talking high keys. Tanks job is to tank. That includes purpose or accidental pulls. a good tank will pick them up a bad tank will cry you pull it you tank it as the group wipes .
This, Many more of us would Tank but you have the go go go, your bad, why are you going this way, yadda yadda
The WoW community made this bed and now they get to lay in it.
People need to get back to treating other players like people again and not some ai bot they can use and abuse.

Not sure what that has to do with anything. I’m not demanding changes and blaming others for me not tanking lmao
again why do you care about the tank issue in mythic plus when you don’t even play retail?
Because of idiots who don’t know when to shut up.
Its a playerbase problem made by said playerbase.
