Explosive Shot Fixed

Currently Explosive Shot is too weak to be of any use in any capacity, but it was too powerful before - here is an acceptable compromise that will correct the issue.

  • Tie Explosive Shot to Clever Traps talent in the Survival tree. 30% more damage.
  • Immolation trap increases Explosive Shot damage against the afflicted target by 150%
  • Explosive Trap increases the AoE effect of Explosive Shot by 5% per target, stacking up to 50%

These are rough figures, but fair considering it requires a successful trap and Trap Launcher Rune to implement it effectively. These can always be tweaked in testing, but I feel it’s just what we need to make Explosive Shot an effective move worth losing Aimed Shot for. Also keep that in mind.

you can use exp shots to masse pull the boars in rfk. It works quite well. Just don’t let them charge too much

The only use case for Exp Shot I’ve found so far is for huge AoE pulls, then switching off for boss fights. You could probably fix it just by removing the shared CD with Arcane Shot, which does a pitiful amount of damage anyway.

I think it’ll take more than that to fix it. Currently it shares a cooldown with Arcane Shot and Aimed Shot - and it’s supposed to be an alternative to Chimera shop which can be fired with Aimed Shot and Arcane Shot. We’re losing a heavy hitting 3 shot combo for 3 popcorn kernels that happen to spray popcorn everywhere. That’s why I figured this spell needs a lot more help than the TNT rune we’re getting with a measly 10% damage bonus.

I’m not sure how Blizzard didn’t see this.

If you look at the dmg numbers, mine is 37 first hit. And 2x 37 later, the total is roughly the same as multi shot. But hits a lot more targets. But yes, it’s weak, most of the hunter shots are weak, arcane shot dose 30 ish dmg at lvl 25. Serpent is like 80dot. Ppl complained pets being op. But without pets, hunters is just an autoshot bot……

Yeah it’s pretty sad. My Chimera shot crits for close to 300 damage at the moment while my Explosive Shot gets something more like 60 on crits right now (180 total). And that’s IF all three crit. The total doesn’t equal even a single hit with Chimera - added to the fact that Chimera can be used with Aimed Shot, while Explosive can’t. It’s virtually useless.

That’s why I wanted damage alternatives. I like setting traps and figured it’d also be a good way to make Explosive Shot more effective and still in keeping with the theme of Survival hunters.

Marksman and Beast Master can both belt out a solid amount of damage as it is, so at least they’re fine, but Survival needs a little help. On that note, SO looking forward to Trap Launchers and traps in combat.
