The weekly engineering quest “Explosive Ash” could use a nerf imo. When I did it last week, I thought it was one-time, and said to myself “well at least I never have to do that again.”
You gotta get 20 explosive ash from these phoenixes. I’d estimate its a 20% drop chance. The phoenixes are generally not grouped, flying high in the air, and shoot fireballs out of range of my interrupt while in the air. I have to dismount mid-air and attack them.
Compared to completing my enchanting weekly, It has taken me ~5x as long to get half of the quest done. It sucks, and I am dreading the idea of having to do it weekly for the next 2 years.

I think you mean buff not a nerf, and yes absolutely it needs it. I shouldn’t have to spend 30 minutes for a single Engineering Knowledge point.
Explosive Ash needs to have a higher drop rate AND have a chance to drop more than one.
The Wowhead comments are all about how absolute crap this quest is.
This quest alone can fill half a “terrible quests” bingo card. Unnecessarily big collection amount? Check. Terrible drop rate? Check. Sparse mobs that are hard to find in groups? Check. Annoying deathrattle? Check. Mobs keep you in combat after death? Check.
Glad to see 18 years of experience being used to create a truly terrible quest.
The drop rate is miserably low.
This quest makes me want to unsubscribe. Stuff like this has no place in this game anymore. Maybe in Classic or TBC way back in the day, but not today.
Engineering is already getting the short end of the profession stick this expansion, fix this quest!

Naw, I meant nerf. I was thinking similar to saying “nerf a raid boss” if it is unreasonably difficult. I would like to buff our ability to complete the quest tho. Either way, im not gonna argue with someone agreeing with me lol.
But yeah this quest sucks. It’s not consistent with the diffuculty level of the other profession quests.

No doubt. At the least it should be 100% drop rate. And even then more likely 2-3 per as the mob density, other than one spot, is very low.
This drop rates needs to change. Furthermore I think they somehow nerfs the one spot that had a high spawn rate! It took be 45 minutes to finish it today. 45 minutes for one quest!
An absolute waste of time.

I know this won’t make people happy but these quests are weekly quests and those are always more time consuming. They want it to take you all week.
I try to do them in several chunks, if I am doing something else near an eligible area I pop over and grind for a bit. I know this is harder for some crafters because only a couple areas in Waking Shores have the right mobs.
most other profession quests take nowhere near the same amount of time as this one. When you look at Alchemy, Enchanting, Blacksmithing, Leathworking, those quests are jokes in comparison. Inscription and Tailoring have issues, but nowhere near this severe. Explosive Ash is terrible in many ways and overly time consuming - especially for a quest you’re supposed to do every week for knowledge.

I went into normal Nelth’s and stealth’d around killing the phoenixes in there, as they count for the quest. Takes some cheesing with sub rogue’s double vanish, but inside of 2 clears I had the 20. Could probably spend less time floofing around and just reset more often on the easy to reach ones.
Sadly, this doesn’t help most other classes. Could queue for the dungeon a few times I suppose and :ahem: ninja pull some extra birds here and there :whoops:

Yeah. I get what you’re saying. However, I have a couple counter-arguments.
1: The difficulty level is inconsistent with the other profession weekly quests for the same reward. It’s fine for it to be a bit much to do in one-sitting, but it should be at least reasonably consistent with the other quests.
2: This quest in particular isn’t easy to chip away at while you engage in other activities. In fact, I would argue that it is disruptive to other activities. I have missed rare spawns in the Obsidian Citadel due to the “From the Ashes” deathrattle mechanic keeping me in combat for a long time, and their obnoxious locations.

Weekly or not the other profession quests are not as nonsensical in drop rate as this one. I honestly do not care if this is weekly, monthly or even an annual quest it’s annoying. Leave classic drop rates to classic regardless of the frequency of the quest. It’s not great regardless the frequency its offered.
