Exploring Azeroth: Pandaria [Megathread]

A friend of Li Li, Catelyn the Blade, is ship wrecked.
I assume this is new information, but Catelyn has a wife and therefore is another LGBTQIA+ member within the WoW Universe.

Li Li and Chen take Catelyn on a tour of Pandaria while her ship is being repaired in Anglers Wharf.

Throughout their physical journey, Li Li has an internal journey where she reflects on her own burdens like Shaohao had endured.

Krasarang Wilds

They meet a Tuskarr that stopped by from the Dragon Isles and Li Li expresses an interest in visiting someday.

The Crane Wing Order strive to live more full lives after having endured the Sha of Despair in the past.

Domination Point is a friendly settlement now. The trio stopped by to gossip with the guards.

Dawnchaser Retreat, after having endured constant mogu and saurok attacks, is slowly healing.

Sentinel Basecamp has been abandoned and is slowly being retaken by the wilds.

Thunder Cleft remains and the Tauren there are helping heal the land.

Redhorn (son of Sunwalker Dezco) is growing up as part of the Golden Lotus.

The Night Elves of Incursion have used the portal there to travel to and from Pandaria and Darnassus, and were helpful in healing Pandaria after the war.

The excavation of the Ruins of Ogudei have ended.

Timeless Isle

It seems that Ordos is still alive.

Jade Forest

Garrosh’ar Point has been dismantled.

Sunke Khang is now retired as mayor of Paw’don Village.

The apple trees of Pad’don Glade were chopped down during MoP by the Horde. They’ve since finally started producing their first cycle of apples, but the cider they turn into isn’t nearly as tasty compared to the time before the Horde and Alliance set foot on the island.

The statue at Serpent’s Heart had been nearly complete during MoP before it was destroyed. The new statue is still several years away from being completed. The wording is “years ago”, and it’s been 9 years since the end of MoP. The new statue has no wards and protects no seals, it’s entirely to allow for Yu’lons cycle of rebirth.

The Saurok of the Windward Isles have since been driven away.

The jade statues of the Jade Witch have been reverted back into people.

The ruins at the Terrace of Ten Thunders are peaceful in present times.

Kun-Lai Summit

After the Siege of Orgrimmar, the brewmasters and monks of pandaria led a charge into Kun-Lai to defeat the Yaungol and push them back into Towlong Stepppes. Since then, the lands have healed and there are little signs of their camps, just the occasional ruined farmhouse or wreckage that nature is reclaiming.

Farmers are slowly returning but are worried of losing their land again so aren’t in a rush.

Kang Bramblestaff has since become the mayor of Binan Village.

The Gate of the August Celestials appears to remain closed.

Keenbean Kafa Co. has grown. There’s now a small shop with a four seat cafe for brewing and selling kafa.

The Path of the Conquerors is still haunted by unquiet spirits.

While Zouchin Village has been rebuilt, there are still signs of the Zandalari invasion, like arrowheads. Additionally, a new Stormstout Brewery has been constructed there, having finished construction a few years prior to the events of the book.

The Peak of Serenity remains destroyed and abandoned following the events of Legion.

Towlong Steppes

The yaungol rule the Towlong Steppes. While no longer at open war with them, the trio don’t expect they’d be treated nicely. Pandaria doesn’t trut the yaungol yet.

Longying Outpost is still used for the Shado-pan can maintain a presence in the Steppe and to watch the yaungol closely so the breach of the Ox Gate isn’t repeated.

The Gao-Ran Battlefront has been quiet of mantid attacks.

The mantid continue to build at Kri’vess, and not nearly as aggressive as they once were.

The mantid colony of Sra’vess is very quiet.

The Niuzao Sentinels have been rebuilding their temple.

Lao-Chin the Iron Belly is still in charge of a small outpost at Dusklight Hollow.

Isle of Thunder

The Kirin Tor and Sunreavers remain, and appear to have a truce. The conflict of before has turned to friendly competition.

The Thunder Forge is being used by Horde and Alliance alike to craft weapons they assure the trio would be used to defend all of Azeroth.

Dread Wastes

Since the defeat of the Sha, the corruption that once blanketed the Dread Wastes has retreated.

The section of the wall that the mantid breached to break into the Valley of the Four Winds has been repaired, and the mantid are no longer constantly attacking it in force.

While there have been signs of retreating corruption among some of the trees, Kypari Zar is as skeletal and dead now as the teetering remains of Kypari Ik to its north.

The Klaxxi are back to dedicating themselves to Y’Shaarj.

The Gate of the Setting Sun stands strong and whole after much repair.

Valley of the Four Winds

Stormstout Brewery has been set right, and Gao is back in Chen’s good graces.

Thirsty Alley has grown with more houses to meet the needs of the growing population working for the brewery.

The stone foundation of the Imperial Granary is still singed in some places from the fel flame the Burning Legion wielded during the Legion invasion.

The waters from the Pools of Purity are back to being as clear and sweet as they were before the Burning Legion attacked and tried desecrating them.

Mudmug’s place hasn’t changed much, but there are no longer hozen or alemental problems.

Veiled Stair

The Terrace of Endless Springs is freely open.

Vale of Eternal Blossoms

In reality, it seems the gates are actually opened as the trio walk from Kun-Lai into the Vale of Eternal Blossoms.

The Vale has healed a great deal. While better, however, it still isn’t as it once was and likely never will be.

The Ruins of Guo-Lai have become akin to a museum for the Lorewalkers.

The Golden Pagoda has since been rebuilt, a very detailed copy that was recreated with the help from sketches, paintings and the memories of Golden Lotus members and other guardians of the Vale. The mogu statues have also since been repaired.

The Shrine of Two Moons and Shrine of Seven Stars both get use from those interested in helping Pandaria.

The sacred pool that was destroyed to make way for the Big Blossom Excavation has since been rebuilt.

Part of the Big Blossom Mine has been filled in, and all of it is overgrown with new grass and a few young trees.

Mogu’shan Palace is being watched over by the Shado-pan in case the mogu ever try to return one day. The lorewalkers also use it as a museum.

At some point, Brann Bronzebeard had spent some time at the Seat of Knowledge. Since then, the Lorewalkers have been corresponding with the Explorers’ League, Kirin Tor, and the Cenarion Circle, among others. Perhaps some Pandaren are still uncertain about the mists being gone, but the Lorewalkers have been beyond eager to connect with the wider world.

Wandering Isle

The wound on Shen-zin Su has long since healed, all that remains is a pronounced divot in the land.

The gate that once closed off Pei-Wu forest now stands open.

The Temple of the Five Dawns is quieter now than it was during Legion. The monks of Pandaria have largely returned to their home temples, though now people travel regularly back and forth.

I think this book is worse than Exploring EK and Northrend, much less new info and more “issues”. These are just some that I caught while skimming it.

The writing says it’s present, as it’s written in the present tense. Which is just another failure of the writer’s knowledge of the lore.

The Alliance were eventually able to rescue the trapped people from the obliettes; the portal that links this place to Darnassus was once one-way because of the remaining magic, but it has since been repaired. Now the Night Elves can come and go as they please rather than take the long overseas route

I find it interesting that her ship is named after Shirvallah, a troll loa when Catelyn is human. Not to mention that she already had a named ship in the lore that Lili visited before called Neptulon’s bride. And it’s not even mentioned.

This is just weird, the Sunreavers are members of the Kirin tor again and has been for years at this point in the story.

The BFA events of N’zoth attacking the vale is not even mentioned outside a single sentence that gives no real info, which is quite weird.

Hmm… What about the Horde-aligned Hozen and Alliance-aligned Jinyu ? Surely their status is addressed right ?

Out of the 3 people who got the book so far that I’ve spoken to, none mentioned anything about the Horde/Alliance relationship with the Hozen/Jinyu. I’ve not discussed everything about the book with them though, but I would not be surprised if wasn’t mentioned.

I mean… I would be ? The Jinyu and Hozen are basically their respective factions’ only permanent presence on continental Pandaria and we have barely ever heard from them ever since MoP. They were the thing I was looking forward to the most when it comes to this book. Not even mentioning them would be stupid beyond words.

I appreciate your sharing this, though it looks like this book has the same issue as all the others where it’s largely just status quo. The Peak of Serenity still not being repaired is pretty absurd, and that Darnassus portal oversight in Krasarang is just absolutely egregious.

I like the Vale stuff though, the changes there are really cool. Would love to see them reflected in-game.

The threats are canonically gone but the damage is still not repaired! This is ridiculous!

The Exploring series really doesn’t have a good reason to exist with a $40(?) price tag when it’s literally just a flyover of the zones with almost no changes to what happened there. If I wanted to get the feel for this book, I’d just go to Pandaria myself ingame.

I couldn’t help but chuckle at this. “The area meant for the full invasion of Pandaria is peaceful, but we didn’t bother to change the name”

Though given Domination Point is there and functioning, Dawnchaser Retreat and Thunder Cleft remain, the Sentinel Basecamp is abandoned, and no mention of Lion’s Landing, sounds like the Alliance has just wholesale abandoned Pandaria?

Dawnchaser Retreat was abandoned.

Lion’s Landing still remains as an Alliance outpost, but nothing has changed since MoP.
Li Li commented about how the lighthouse doesn’t have much use but perhaps will help guide ships in the future if Pandaria becomes a more popular destination.

Anything about the Horde Hozen or Alliance Jinyu?

Nothing regarding the current relationship either holds with the factions.
Only thing I had seen was that the Jinyu are helping heal Pandaria, and nothing on the Hozen.

Not that a twelve-year-old (?) panda cub has much reason to care about magian politics, but this is a pretty glaring error, especially accounting for the timeskip.

Wait yeah. The Kirin Tor is neutral again and the Sunreavers rejoined.
My first thought reading that was just “that’s weird that they’re still there, but status quo is the norm for these books” but give it even a moment’s thought further and it falls apart.

Also I think Li Li is like 21 or something now as of DF.

I know this is a personal thing since the Sunreavers rejoined the Kirin Tor, but I think it’s BS that they’re on “friendly” terms now after the Kirin Tor kicked in their doors in the middle of the night to arrest or kill them for something most of them had no knowledge of, then made the Sunreavers grovel in order to get back into the city, to the point where Aethas had to offer up the Sunstriders’ familial sword to them.

I think the Sunreavers should be angrier about that, but apparently the only guy who was is evil and was working for Sylvanas.

What’s funny is “Sunreaver Onslaught” was always a bit of a misnomer, it was headed up by Silvermoon’s leaders and military because more Sunreavers were dead or imprisoned than exiled. Had Lili just vaguely referred to “blood elf forces” there wouldn’t be an issue.

Never a truer word, but bigger hurts than this are all kissed and made up after BfA. The best we can hope for is that Jaina deigns to meet the victims caught up in her purge halfway.

It’s worse, he offered the Sunstriders dynasty sword. The literal Sword of Quel’thalas royal family, was wielded first by the first king of Quel’thalas.

That’s… more or less what I said? I’m aware that the Sunstriders were the monarchical line of Quel’thelas, and that Felo’melorn dates back it’s beginning. I feel like this was implied.

There’s actually a sizable chunk of overdue reparation sit downs with a lot of people on both sides, Jaina included for the Purge. But this game can’t really stomach anything that’s not all out warfare, so we’re likely never gonna see anyone sit down and talk about what everyone is due.

I believe you mistyped it/mixed up names since you called it the Sunreaver familial sword. Which is why I wrote my post as I didn’t think you were aware.
I didn’t mean to be rude.
