Exploited a layering bug to reach 60 - We should be concerned and not celebratory

Hey all,

I can’t be the only one concerned that someone exploited a layering bug to hit 60, right?

The last 2 levels of his character leveling, he avoided PVP by exploiting a bug in the layering mechanics in order increase spawn time (from same faction) + avoid potential PVP (from other faction) by constantly jumping between layers.

Blizzard specifically said the layering was to even out high player load and that they were taking measures to stop layer swapping which could be abused to benefit a player

Layer swapping can be exploited to:

  • Avoid PVP
  • Respawn mobs instantly
  • Farm resources ultra fast
  • Farm world rares and chest arena events

He explicitly abused layer mechanics to benefit himself.

I believe Blizzard needs to take a firm stance on this and issue a banning. Otherwise people are going to abuse these mechanics to farm nodes, mobs, avoid PVP, etc. I worry now that people will now think it is acceptable to do this as this can lead to resource hoarding, AH manipulation, PVP advantages, and overall create an uneven playing field for non-exploiting players.

What are your thoughts?

Mod Edit: Let’s not start a witch hunt. Edited thread title and OP to remove player’s name.

Who cares?

You’re not alone, but you’re in a very tiny minority. Also your concerns aren’t really anything to be concerned about. Move along.

We knew this was how it was going to be. We had many heated discussions. It’s over now, this is the game we got.

People generally don’t like to play with cheaters.

Wow. This sounds exactly like the Real World and the people that inhabit it.
A lot of people leave themselves behind when they log in, and almost “live” a different life; looks like some people bring everything with them.

I’m being 100% serious when I say this…no one really cares. What are you “concerned” about. He used a layering glitch to make it 2 levels…how does this effect you in the slightest and why does it even matter. He hit 60 first and was rewarded with a hand job from the community. Tomorrow nobody will even know his name. Blizzard already stated, many times, the layering was a temporary solution and would be going away by phase 2.

Nobody cares.

Who did what now? Never mind, I don’t care about some no-lifer that is blitzing to the end game just to end up complaining about “having nothing to do”.

If there’s an exploit, Blizzard needs to fix the exploit asap. I don’t really care what happens to the people who took advantage of the exploit.

Nice try Method, but I’m happy for him.

Not sure does this violate the tos? If not, hop onboard the layer train and layer your way to victory.

Probably not, there are many sad people around so you’re likely not alone.

Why? I dinged 60 in April 2005 so I’m not really bothered by someone doing it 14 years later.

It is exploiting game mechanics against their intention so, as much as I’d like to give him a hand for creativity, it’s best to punish him. Otherwise, this is going to become, as you said, a way to farm and wreck the economy.

This isn’t a bug. This is how layering was intended. So for all those people who called me a doomsdayer, this is my quintessential, “I told you so” post.

I told you layering was broken. I told you. In your face.

Learn’em all!!

QQmore. This isn’t Vanilla, this is Classic. The devs knew what layering would cause and they didn’t care. Sounds like your jealous

You can do the same thing in retail. Jump to another shard to avoid WPvP and farm rares for mouts. Players do it all the time and none have been banned.

Implying everyone and their dog isn’t already doing this. This is a problem with layering not a problem with the playerbase

Alot your concerns are valid but honestly the more people catch up the harder everything you listed will be to do.

I can avoid PvP by layer hopping when there’s a handful of people my level. Not so much when 100’s are.
