I’ve been spending alot of time in Sithilus of late grinding out CC rep working on obtaining wrath of Cenarius. Last night, me and my buddy finally finished the Four Dukes questline to obtain Mark of Cenarius and headed back to CH. As usual there were some Ally just south on the road 4 on 1 ganking people leaving. My friend and I engaged a few battles to try and even the odds, but then it got tiring really quickly just due to the other Ally passerbys jumping in and the apethic Horde just watching.
Anywho, after it was over, I went into the city near the guards because I didn’t want to PVP anymore. This one particular Ally Boomkin, for whatever reason, decided to start grieving me over and over for about 30 minutes. He took off all is clothes(so they would not decay), stealthed, and used the Vanquished Tentacle of C’Thun to attack me. Even if I stood absolutely still (did not have Shadowguard up) and did absolutely nothing, the guards would rush in and kill me and him. He repeated this about 10 times, until I finally just left the zone because my rez timer got to two minutes and my equipment started to decay so bad. Anyone who’s worked on CC rep know the quests take up half your inventory space, so I did not have the space to un-equip my gear and there’s no bank in CH.
I’m all about PVP, but to me this is taking over the top when a player can take advantage of a combination of mechanics to not only disrupt your gameplay with a two minute rez timer but also damage your gear and cost you gold by getting a mob of Elite NPC guards to kill you over and over.
I don’t think it would be considered griefing, since PvP is enabled after all. But some people take things to extremes. Unfortunately not much you can do about it aside from roll a PvE server.
The fact is, when you play on PvP servers, you are placing your experience in the hands of others, and their’s in your own hands. That’s just the nature of it sadly.
Now, I don’t play Classic or SoD, but in retail, unless I’m working on something that requires War Mode to be turned on, i only do PvP in random BGs or Shuffle so that those instances when someone else can affect my gameplay are chosen by me directly.
While I agree with the sentiment. Normal PVP does not incur decay damage. Using a trinket to cause NPCs to kill you that were intentionally placed by the Devs to discourage PVP. Normally, only people who attack in CH are killed by guards, but in this case you literally just stand there and get destroyed over and over again. My repair bill was over 5G and my rez timer got up to 2 minutes. Granted the other player was killed also, but apparently they have done this repeatedly as they had removed all of the clothes as not to incur decay damage.
PvP happened on a PvP server. Oh no.

Valuable input. This was not PVP. This was using a trinket to cause NPC in CH to kill and cause equipment decay. Sounds like something you’re fond of doing. Please learn to read and actually comprehend.

Looks like we found the trinketing druid.

Buggy trinket, but other than that. Yeah, pvp happened on a pvp server. Use the report bug option in game and wait for them to fix it. Nothing else you can really do

No, its still pvp and equipment decay can be part of that. priest mind control into mobs or off a cliff incurs the same penalty
BUT abusing the trinket in a way that was unintended is an exploit.
so its more of using an exploit to grief. which is no bueno

Yeah, I’ve been killed countless times in Sithilus by Ally and I just go about my business. Been attacked by groups of Ally when summoning templars and Dukes and failed the quests. I can accept these things happen as its an open PVP server and that’s just how it is because I know it happens on both sides.
This was an exception in my opinion, because they were using the Elite NPC guards explicitly put in place by the Devs to discourage PVP by using the C’Thun trinket. Did it no less than 10 times over the course of 30 minutes. I should not have to leave a zone and stop my quests because someone is exploiting a trinket.

That’s not an unreasonable stance by any means. PvP enabled this to happen though.
While my response is technically valid, I can understand why you’d be frustrated with the situation, and I hope you can find a solution for it.
It’s not pvp… It’s essentially pve. Guards are not players. . .
again… mind controlling another player over a cliff or into mobs IS PVP. If the other player wasn’t specifically abusing a bugged item… then the use of npcs to kill the opposition would still be PVP. literally the mechanic to engage in pvp is for person A to engage with person B in a way that is detrimental to person B. griefing is pvp.
None of that is the same as having guards kill someone in a sanctuary area…
That sucks man. Even on my PVE server, I’ll sometimes run into the opposite faction that is pvp tag just sleep on top of the mailbox hoping you would click them instead of the mailbox and then the guards would kill you. Neutral towns can sometimes be fun, but sometimes ppl can for sure take it too far. And I hear you about the CC rep grind taking so many bag slots. While I’m glad we can fly to Tanaris nearby for bank, I’d be cool if they added one to C. hold as apparently they aren’t turned off by having some goblins already inside the Inn lol.
yes report cause its abuse of game mech, Useing a bug to force guards to attack you has nothing to do with Pvp.
Technically, PVP did not happen.
Person A used a trinket that spawns npcs on Person B.
Person B is then attacked by guards when doing nothing / afk.
If guards attacked the caster of the trinket, it would be even / fair / different.
The fact person A can do this without any repercussions is ‘broken’ / unfair.
summons NPCs that make guards NPCs attack another player is not “PVP”.
This is griefing, yes. Anyone who say it isn’t is being dumb.
This is similar to people using homunculus during phase 2 in Booty Bay on players. Guards would kill BOTH players. The priests would be a low level since you could get that rune extremely easily.
Guess which one took durability damage? Technically both, but the priests knew what they were doing and were low levels/naked anyways.

This falls under the catagory of zone disruption/ Terrain Exploitation - as explained here
https://www.icy-veins.com/forums/topic/45909-avoiding-guards-in-neutral-cities-qualifies-as-terrain-exploitation/
Abusing a trinket to force pvp while remaining unattackable is an actionable offense - report them.
Crazy! I never seen this happen on Wild Growth! Sounds like player versus player combat is happening on a player versus player server! No its not grieving i think that’s what is going on from your end my friend. Anyways just hop layers or reroll pve. You even have a warning to click on when you create your toon on a pvp server telling you exactly what will happen on these types of servers…Hope you have a great day Ballinor
