So I missed a couple of exploding balls in the HoV M+17 I jus ran (easily beating the timer) but according to the ele shaman in my group, I’m the worst healer ever because of it and should kill myself.
Makes me sad that in this day and age, where we are at the tail end of a global pandemic, that people can still be so awful. I’m sorry that happened to you.
You could always remind them of their excellent instant cast spell called “Frost Shock”
You have two options:
- If it bothers you, report it appropriately since that comment violates blizzard policy.
- Don’t let it bother you. You’ll be better off learning to only care about what is said by those you know/care about.
There’s a lot of lazy dps who’ll do 0 explosives the entire run and complain when they go off. I usually have to do 70-100+ every single run and occasionally you get a tank or something that helps.
People think in absolutes constantly in this game.
Just because priest is one of the best classes in the game for explosive doesn’t mean it should be only the priest who gets the explosives. Last expansion, I helped with Explosives playing Arcane, something pretty horrible at it.
Also the Elemental Shaman could remove one point from somewhere in the Shaman tree and take Frost Shock. I did exactly that last night on my fresh shaman. It’s annoying that you dealt with this player, but please understand that they are mediocre.
I try to get explosives during explosive week but during aoe phases it is just hard. I don’t necessarily think that priests are the easiest to get to explosives as SWP is on the global CD so expecting me to get them all on big packs is just insane…especially with healing at the same time.
I have never had anyone say anything rude to me though. Sorry that you experienced that. Saying something that awful is a reflection on their character (personal), not yours.
I do look at my details to see if I am doing a decent job. Some dungeons I got the huge bulk, some I was more even with others, and a couple I was on the lower end. Some dps are just on it!!!

I think it’s probably my most hated affix… It’s not because killing them is hard, with a good UI and mouseover SWP/PTW it’s easy enough to get them… But it just gets really annoying as Disc…
I feel like Disc is already generally a really “busy” spec, you kind of need to get your DOTs rolling at the start and those globals are not only for damage but to set-up your healing… So even if no damage is going out yet, you are still setting yourself behind a bit by spending your GCDs on killing explosives rather than setting-up your dots.
Then you also basically try to fit as many spell during certain windows when you have atonements up and other modifiers active like ShadowCov, Schism, Shadowfiend up… But if/when multiple explosives appear during that time then you either give-up your burst window to get them or continue to heal and pray that somebody else gets them for you…
Ultimately is still doable I mean but yeah there are definitely cases where it can feel pretty bad… I mean it’s fine I guess some affixes will feel worse for some specs than others, at least Bursting is not that big of a deal as Priest.
I agree with this almost completely. Discipline is simultaneously very good and dealing with explosives, but also less capable of healing than other healers while dealing with the explosives since it doesn’t have the same ability to shove health bars up since it requires so many abilities to have the same effect. It’s mostly just fine since discipline can heal the whole group just as easily as it heals one player, but it is extremely tedious and feels really bad one another player isn’t mindful of that and takes some avoidable damage and dips lower than the rest of the team.
I agree with Caithyra - feels like I usually have to hit 80-90 and a tank (or another player) joining in the job to bring that down to 50-60 cuts down on the tedium a lot while most players just get angry that you’re not handling the “healer affix” and complain about how it’s a massive dps loss for them to kill them. They don’t appreciate that death is a much larger dps loss.
I have one of those weak auras that tracks who’s doing explosives and in some dungeons like NoK I had close to 140 explosives and the next person was 14.
Holy and Disc are probably the best class to pop explosives, but it gets incredibly busy in dungeons like AV where you have to purge 2-3 mobs on-top of doing explosives which is super intense. My damage drops because of having to stop and chase explosives.
Maybe if they made it so killing an orb would give you some small benefit then it could feel much better…
Thinking something like a 5% DPS/HPS buff that stacks up to (let’s say 3), this would work under the idea that you need to spend some globals for killing them but you at least get rewarded and in a way you kind of get back what you lost from focusing them instead of “punishing” the HPS/DPS of those who gets them…
Alternatively something that would be interesting too is that if they reduced the damage they do by a bit but make it so getting hit puts a DPS debuff on players, so that way also punishes DPS and they might be more interested in killing em now.
My problem with explosives on Disc is mana, actually.
I spend way too much extra mana that doesn’t convert to healing hitting PTW on explosives, and we don’t get death throes mana back when we do it. Pretty consistently find myself running low on explosive week and I can’t ever replace chillglobe.
I don’t like the affix much because the community treats it as the healer’s job and that just makes it busy work. If I’m on my druid, then whatever, I can just pop all of them and have everyone hotted. But when you’ve got mediocre players that aren’t avoiding damage from mob packs, losing the globals healing them kinda sucks.
I already think Grievous is kinda a lame affix, but I honestly prefer it over the “just spend extra globals” that is explosive.
I said this on another thread. SL made this a healer mechanic because we spent only about 25-50% of a dungeon actually healing. Having it be a 1shot instead of a hard switch was both a good and bad. Rest was dpsing.
If the pulls are not stupid big healers can still generally deal with it. Only people I have seen complain about explosives so far is actually tanks doing the massive pulls. DPS have been a lot better helping this xpack without me asking. I have a macro that just says “Intensive healing. Help with orbs” and they are great about getting on it.
Druid’s Moonfire says hi. It also is really good to deal with them.Always a 1shot instant cast and costs almost nothing to use.

I love doing orbs. But when I’m spam healing your mistakes or high inc dmg, there’s only so much you can do. I don’t mind that it’s seen as a healer mechanic but dungeons are still team content. It’s ok to help.
And I’m an awesome healer until I do something someone doesn’t like. Arbitrary or not. This is the life, welcome.
