Denathrius and the “Maw Walker” just met. No history whatsoever. He is the ruler of Revendreth and we were specifically referred to him by the Winter Queen to ask for help. The Harvester of Pride (Accuser) has betrayed Denathrius, accusing him of being responsible for the anima drought, and insited and lead a rebellion against him. We already know for a fact he is not responsible and it’s actually the result of the Arbiter no longer sorting souls. Fast forward, the traitor claims the Master is a liar (shocker). She attacks an ally, who is assisting us with a hunt, and instead of killing her on sight we listen to her and together spy on Denathrius (all of a sudden she’s trustworthy because she gave us the ability to blink? wtf?). We see the ruler of Revendreth is harboring anima. Big whoop. None of our business and there’s no reason to suspect malice at this point. He attacks us (he see’s we are spying on him with a traitor, this is completely justified). We have no history so he assumes we are also betraying him and possibly meant to the entire time. Now all of a sudden things are honky dory with the Accuser and we’re running errands for her.
Can someone clarify if I’m missing something, or is this just “nu-Blizzard” writing in action? It kind of seems like we’re the bad guys atm.

Finish Revendreth and you’ll see why we turned on Denathrius. Things will become quite clear.

I will assume you are done with the zone, but will spoiler just in case.
Summary
You know for a fact that the Arbiter was subdued and it was most likely the Jailer’s plan to do so. It is also heavily implied by the end of Maldraxxus that there is a traitor in the midst. Let’s move on…
Summary
He also admits to causing the draught in this scene, and that he’s stealing anima from the other zones, for a ‘higher purpose’. Ah! That’s a good implication that he’s working for someone. Probably the Jailer, because… who else? Also, he acts like a cartoon villian in this scene.
Not really sure how the main character ever believed Denathrius to start with to be honest.

You knew it was going to happen based on the voice acting…

He’s not really a bad guy. The horde and alliance just murder everyone for their treasure.
We are literally committing armed robberies. But that’s ok - Saithis is a mercenary anyway…and she will kill anyone for the right price (or shinies)
Finally someone that gets it. :). Yes we are. Why do you think sargeras is trying to be the savior of the cosmos? He was right about so many things
It’s illidan that I don’t trust tbh. Especially with any sort of power. Big mistake we made.

because its a dreadlord and we dont fall for those anymore.

Ehhhhhh…lothraxion?
Btw I have a weird theory that he’s actually a double agent
He’s definitely a Dreadlord agent, it was heavily implied in the dossier that was found.
Anyway, Denathrius outed himself in the campaign and admitted to causing the drought because he and the Jailer are working together on this whole thing. The red magic that blasted the Arbiter may also have been his.

its basically been confirmed that he is via a datamined lore book.
Yeah, the issue is that, at that particular point, there was no reason to betray Denathrius.

That he’s a double agent ? Or serves only the nathrezim? Cuz I read that too in a bellular video. But it doesn’t reflect whether or not he’s actually got his own motives or not.
The nathrezim assume he’s loyal…plot twist - he’s in it for himself
And I wouldn’t blame him. The light has shown plenty of success in recent years. Nathrezim have had plans fall through multiple times. I think lothraxion is a lot smarter than the others.
Because despite Blizz structuring the story of SL like a single player RPG, we still have zero agency and no interactivity with the story whatsoever. We can’t let anything get in the way of Blizz’s story after all!

His name is DeNATHRius and he resides in Castle NATHRia.
He’s in for himself because he is the NATHRezim.

We didn’t. We just gave the benefit of the doubt to someone who implored us to hear them out, who then showed us the already obvious villain speaking villainously. I like to think our characters are not so utterly naive as to just assume every leader we meet is on the up and up. Especially one who seems to have all the power and is facing a desperate rebellion. I think they have some intuition.

Ahhhh you scrambled my brain!
Good observations. I missed that totally lol
But I was specifically referring to lothraxion
whom I do trust to a certain extent.
Denathrius was one of the most obviously corrupt people I have ever seen. Honestly I felt it was stupid that I was ever working for him at all.

Could have been really cool if Blizz took this RPG thing further (i.e. put any kind of effort into it at all) and gave us some agency. Maybe we’re jerks and know he’s a jerk and wanna work for him. Maybe we know what he is and wanna spy on him. Maybe we wanna spy on the rebellion on his behalf, etc.

Also the associations with vampirism, which the nathrezim are also known for. And also that he supposedly created the venthyr in his own image, yet is physically very different from them. Specifically in the shape of his legs which are in fact, the same as the nathrezim.

Actually I was going to say just pop some wings on him here and he’d look exactly like them. But blizz have clearly pre-empted me with the placement of the hilt of his sword. Not the most subtle symbolism.

For all we know the nathrezim left those hints and codexes to be discovered and read by us on purpose.
It’s been said time and time again that nobody knows their true motives. So if think we do (like we do now) then we are most likely being fooled…once again.
I mean they’re so secretive - nobody actually knows how to kill one except the nathrezim. (That’s why I theorize that lothraxion is actually not loyal to them…he may be the one to reveal how to stop and kill one).
I take all the discovery stuff with a grain of salt.
