Explain why "raid logging" is a bad thing

Just because you decide to blow money on flasks does not mean they’re required. No healer in my raid flasks, and we still clear 15/15 every week no issues.

Major mana pots are only ~15g per stack on my server. “Huge cost” ?

Compare this to DPS that have to use all sorts of elixirs and world-drop consumables, whereas healers are perfectly fine with just mana oil and major mana, two consumes.

Some people live in this game so they have a skewed perception of what it means to have a healthy relationship with gaming and WoW in general.

Nothing is required, but it takes a huge load off of peoples’ shoulders and that’s a good thing.

On your server. On mine, it can sometimes reach 40g/stack.

Except you don’t, “have” to use them by your own logic, even as a DPS. Outside of, say, a tank nobody “has” to use them.

If you don’t use them but the other healers do, that’s not you not, “needing” them - that’s the other healers carrying you.

Probably because raids/pvp is the endgame for people and the alternative is being able to raid/dungeon whenever one feels like.

Because this game has a community aspect, and it’s not just about each individual’s personal progression. A big part of the game is the community, people chatting, interacting, being social, etc. And more people raid logging diminishes the community and makes the game less fun for everyone.

That’s why it’s a bad thing.

And I’m not trying to blame or guilt anyone about that. As others have noted, raid logging is usually a result of people running out of interesting or necessary things to do, which is going to happen from time to time between patches/phases, and certainly toward the end of an an MMO’s life cycle, which is what we’re dealing with now.

I end up having to raid log not out of choice but because of the damn world buffs. :frowning:

Mana pots were less than 1g a pop on my server just last month. I purchased enough to last into TBC. Weapon oils, magebloods, Greater arcane elixers, banked for months now for naxx specifically. No need to buy dark runes when demonic runes are the same thing and can be farmed in a few hours a week. Not sure what your talking about.

No one is claiming that someone who chooses to raid log is somehow in the wrong, it’s just that people are expected to raid log when they’d rather play their characters, just because others raid log. I don’t raid anymore specifically because I refused to world buff and raid log, which was really gonna hold my guild back in Naxx. I don’t mind that other people do it, but I’d really enjoy not being expected to do it myself. Unfortunately, at this phase of classic, it’s just somewhat mandatory.

Just so you’re aware, the person you’re posting to blows money on a lot of stuff all the time because they run GDKP runs often. It’s part of why the meta has ruined the game, the incentive to raid at peak performance has incentivized people to buy more stuff from the AH and the only way to “cheat” the system without buying gold online is a GDKP handout from all the people who do buy it online.

Because there isn’t much to do outside of raiding and getting consumes for raiding.

Leveled my three to 60 that I will be using in The burning crusade. Only gear I need is from naxxaramas. We socialize on discord daily. Gotten all the profession mats I need for my swaps at 70.

Not really sure what else there is to do at this point. Plenty of other games I can play and that’s okay. Easily getting my 15 dollars a month worth.

So many things irk me about raid logging guilds. This game is fun outside of raiding. The social interactions make it better. I would never join guilds that only raid logged. And if too many people started doing it in my guild, they could all go find a new one and I can rebuild

Classic raid logging is an unfortunate side effect. I preserve buffs because they’re a boon to the raid. I have to not play to preserve them. I would love to be able to hop into a dungeon with my druid but they’ve already been through DMT + Yojamba + SW so are unplayable for two days if I want to keep them for the content that really matters to me right now- which is killing KT (which we have attempted, but have not yet done.)

Raid logging in the voluntary sense is fine. Complaining about that kind of raid logging is selfish. Let people play when they want to. Let raiders decide they’re only going to play on raid nights as long as they still bring what they need to.

I dont get it either my guy/girl/apache helicopter.

Play how you want, when you want. Even if its for an hour at a time for a whole week.

I never felt this way about the Standard Game, either. At the end of the day, BOTH Classic and the Standard Game are:

I find nothing wrong with Raid Logging. As long as those Raider Loggers don’t try to change Classic into something that it’s not, then we’re good

Its not bad if you are ok with it

You dictate how you play and what you enjoy. If you dont like something that your guild does then move on from that guild. People need something to latch onto so they can pretend their arguments have any merit, but if you are ok with it and enjoy playing that way then have at it

It’s not that the action of raiding is bad, it’s that some raid loggers contribute negatively to the community in a varied number of ways.

Because raid loggers have a higher % of players who buy gold, this has a tendency to make people mad. I can expand if you like

Somehow I thought this was going to be about raid parsing and people who ignore mechanics on parse nights to pad numbers.

That’s obnoxious.

Just logging on to raid is whatever. Neutral. Like making a sandwich.

Whats the point of logging in to raid, and getting gear, if you aren’t using it for anything but raiding? If i was the GM, would make me want to give gear to people who arent raid loggers, at least the gear is going to use.

Otherwise, I don’t have a problem with raid loggers. Just don’t expect prio.

Honest question but after a point where is there to use it for BUT raiding? It quickly becomes overkill for overland content.

PvP, grinding, running stuff for/with guildies, and future use. Question for raid loggers…why raid log? Whats the point of getting gear if you arent going to use it for anything outside of raids? Surely you realize that gear could be much more useful for someone else, especially big ticket items.
