Explain to me why Balance exists

Why is the balance druid spec so awfully designed for Dragonflight, actually why has balance been poorly designed for the majority of its life time. Its a druid not a arcane mage. Why is most of its magic theme astral and arcane (with a little teensy bit of nature) damage. It should be having tree branches stab enemies, insects biting at the bodies of its enemies, producing swamps / quick sand at the bottom of their enemies like malfurion does in that bfa warfront cutscene. Like anything related to the forest, nature, swamps what ever. Not the moon, stars, and what ever fat chicken magic the dev can randomly throw a dart at on the random BS dart board.

So tell me why is the class designed like it is, and why does the design continue to get worse with more of a focus far from actual legit druidism? Cause F eclipses and F being told to do single target damage because you’re in wrath spell glows up when fighting packs of mobs.

Moon and sun is nature too. Idk what to tell ya. It’s not hard to understand.

Balance has been in the game from the get go. If you don’t like the spec. Don’t play it.

I probably wont, but i have 2 druids for 2 specs. Zandalari for Feral and Guardian, and Night elf for Resto and balance. But with how (in my opinion) awful balance feels as well as it feels more like an arcane mage than a druid i feel like my nelf druid only exists for restoration at this point which tbh hasn’t been fun in long time. But i been attached to that character the most within the alliance.

It’s not as though the other stuff is utterly absent from the spec. They have spells that deal nature damage, they can summon treants, and things like Wild Mushroom will be coming back in Dragonflight.

Beyond that the sun and moon are part of nature and have always been part of the theme of druids in WoW, and the moon based spells have always been arcane and later astral damage.

That’s not gonna change, nor does it really make them an arcane mage any more than a few fire spells makes a destro lock a fire mage.

I mean shouldn’t we name the balance spec as astromancer or astrologist? Cause thats what they feel more like than a balance druid. and Destruction warlocks have always felt like another fire mage spec to me  as well as the up coming evokers dps spec is just another fire mage but on a dragon. But yes i do love the exploding mushroom, the faire dragon and treants. It makes it feel closer to what a actual caster druid should feel like.

Because lasers, duh!

I mean they do have fury of the elune which looks like the covenant ship cleansing beam.

Balance works just fine considering it’s meant to play on the themes of switching between the moon and the sun.

There’s plenty of more traditional nature stuff in there, it’s just not the entirety of the spec nor has it ever been,

That’s how the devs designed it.

I think they should at least remove the eclipse mechanic so I can spam wrath and not be punished for it and spam starfire on aoe mobs without being punished because i’m in the wrong eclipse. Make it feel like i have options like every other caster.

It’s not really a punishment if spamming Starfire does more DPS. It’s just unintuitive at best.

Which the last I saw on the PTR at least, you could activate the same eclipse repeatedly now. Not sure if it’ll make it into Dragonflight or not, but it would really just mean casting Wrath twice once in a while.

More importantly, do you pronounce your name “pure” like a single syllable, or two - more like purée?

Until you get to the wrath phase against a pack of mobs, and on the wowhead dragonflight talent calculator the eclipse that forces you to go to a different eclipse for a specific time is the very first talent, can’t pick anything else till you pick it, forcing you into that awful mechanic for the whole spec

Well like I said it was on PTR and not DF so I don’t know if it’s gonna be changed, but I played around with the new talents and it let me repeatedly activate the moon eclipse over and over again for Starfire. I just had to use Wrath twice every once in a while to re-trigger it.

Otherwise just spam Starfire anyway if there are enough mobs to make the DPS better. It’s not terribly intuitive, but a lot of specs have a quirk like that.

I hope you’re right, it will make the spec a lot more enjoyable if you’re experience is going to the experience for everyone in balance. I just hope that i’ll be allowed to dedicate my talents to the right side of the balance tree where all the nature spells are at without people calling me out for not going meta.

Have you seen chickens in real life control their arcane? They can’t. that’s why balance is no good. Immersion

I tend to agree. I tried to make my my druid my main several times since vanilla and it never worked out well. For starters i don’t like moonkin form. It was cool to have a glyph for sparkly instead. Druid is still awesome at many things, mainly cheesing quests.

Doesn’t feel like an Arcane Mage to me.

Because I find Astral magic cool, also you’re making it sound like there’s more Arcane spells than Nature which is not true. They have the same amount of spells from each school with Power of Goldrinn and Wild Mushroom being added to the kit in DF which is Arcane and Nature respectfully.

The spec is getting better tbh since we’re no longer forced to alternate between the two in DF.

… what? What’s wrong with it? :face_with_raised_eyebrow:

Because Elune and An’she. They went Lunar and Solar.

So since as far back as cata i can remember you had this solar and lunar phase that empowered your lunar and solar spells. If you’re empowered / eclipsed you’re forced into one school of spells. Wrath is single target and Starfire for aoe. So if you’re in a mythic plus and ya just constantly pulling mobs you will want to use starfire. But wait you’re solar spells are being empowered so it feels like you’re being punished for continuing on using starfire. This wouldn’t be to bad if sunfire the aoe was also empowered which is not.

On top of that just feel like if you play druid who’s theme is nature like trees, wood, leaves and all that then you should cast magic related to that and not the stuff off the planet like stars, moon and so on.
