Why do males get high elf and females get human?

They should have been both human. We have to many elves in the game as is.

Because Thrall has loved 3 women in his life and 2 of them are humans. Therefore, the most comforting form to every member of the Horde, with all of it’s myriad races and people, is a human woman.

I still think they’re both humans though perhaps it’s an Asian situation with skinny being ugly.
edit: I made a terrible take on the asians. 
They are not.
it is just a model used for them…
The most likely real answer is that those are two of the most-played races in the game so it made more sense than spending time on less popular races…

Because no one will be using them when they can make the dragon of their dreams to run around with. So need to make any additional Visage forms. (Also Visage form drops when you enter battle so the flip flopping between forms can get old.)
it doesn’t only on using breath/“beastial” abilities. just spamming Living flame (for example) you stay in visage

Trolls, Night Elves, and even Tauren were more a part of the major world events.
It would have made more sense just to give Dracthyr a Dragon form and then pick any mortal visage from the current races. That may have been too much work? I am not a game designer.
The best explanation I have heard for Human Females is that the Dragons knew about Titan Keepers and their humanoid form. Ok. I could buy that if the Males were Humans too. It would be lame to only have Human visages, but it would make sense.
How did the Males become High Elves, if High Elves were not even a thing until after the Sundering? Nozdormu is the time dragon, so him having a visage similar to High Elves makes sense.
Maybe Deathwing modeled the Male form after Nozdormu, and he did not even know that Nozdormu modeled it after High Elves?
Deathwing : “Hey, where did he get the idea for that cool visage form? Damn him! He is looking good though…”

My guess is that corners were cut.
They could give us the ability to choose from any races with limited customization like horns/scales or they could give us broad customization at the expense of racial choice.
Frankly, after playing Dracthyr on the beta, I hate them. They’re a broken mess of a race/class with bugged transmog restrictions and ridiculous combat limitations.
I’m honestly scared for Tuesday. How in god’s name could they even consider releasing them in their current state?

Its kind of the same model as a elf but I think it’s a human. They don’t have the elf ears I think.
Beauty standard for China. I can’t throw off the idea the game won’t consider the market.

They are not high elves and humans. They are supposed to be generic “mortal” races that are just based off those models rather than Blizz starting from nothing.
Humans and High Elves where not around when Dracthyr where created. We don’t know the full story about their visage forms that work differently compared to how they do with dragons but going by a NPC in the beta there is something special about them. We don’t choose our form like Dragons, I think it’s likely related to how they where created.
Every day I light a candle for more visage forms.

Honestly the visage form thing is the biggest ball drop from Blizzard. It should’ve been any of the mortal races as your visage form regardless of faction.
We already have dragons canonically assuming the visages of every race on both Horde and Alliance.

Eastern markets love their characters being rather thin. Have you not seen the success of Genshin Impact and other similar titles?
Most of their characters are just bishies and anything bigger is treated as being inhuman and gross.
