I use Dark Simulacrum. I see the debuff on the enemy. They cast a spell. The debuff disappears. But I have no spell to cast. It just shows my Dark Simulacrum with the cooldown left.
I’ve used it probably 20 times with the same result. Are there a lot of restrictions to this spell?
only restriction should be a spell they spent mana to cast.
They have to cast within 12 sec or it drops off. Ive used it mostly for trolling but otherwise its pretty trash.
To the best of my knowledge it is quite good against a Druid, mage or lock.
Getting a cc like cyclone or fear is quite strong.
I was caught in a 2v1 against a rogue and frost mage in a BG. I used DS on the mage randomly and somehow got that swirling frost ball spell and ended up killing them both in quick succession because of that. That was the most satisfying use of dark simulacrum I had ever had.
Can we duplicate greater pyro or chaos bolt? seems like those would be easy to time correctly, and then they become instants for us.
Does it work that you can cast it just before the spell goes off, or does it need to be before the spell starts casting?
Yes on Greater Pyro, no on Chaos Bolt.
You can cast it just before the spell finishes its cast. This is ideal with longer spells that you want to snipe and don’t want them to cancel their cast and use another non-important instant cast spell to eat your Dark Sim.
Just a reminder: As long as the spell has a mana cost to it, you can steal it. If it doesn’t have a mana cost, you can’t. So things like Chaos Bolt, which uses Soul Shards and not mana, can’t be stolen.
You CAN steal spells that are “free” to cast from procs though as they originally have a mana cost.
