I am utterly confused. HALP. details about both and how they work in relation to the current ranking! Pls
Who else laughed at the title, started to make a joke, then thought better of it?
Joke away… Treat me like an idiot, but please explain. lol
Nah you’re not an idiot, I didnt mean it as an insult to you. I am sorry if it came off that way. I cant your answer your question or I would, but Im not knowledgeable enough about how its calculated.
Honorable Kills (HKs) and Contribution Points (CPs)
“not all HKs have the same value. Every HK comes with a certain amount of Honor Contribution Points (which we will be calling CPs).”
Contribution Points, or Rating Points, are earned each week based on two things:
- The number of characters on your faction/realm that had 15 honorable kills or more
and - Where you stand in relation to those players, in terms of how much honor you earned that week.
Everyone on that list then earns between 0 and 13,000 contribution points, or Rating Points (we’ll use the term RP for this henceforth). Your running total RP is used to determine your Rank. Each week you lose 20% of your previous RP, so the gains start to slow down dramatically the higher you go.
There’s a bit more in the exact math and breakdown, as far as it goes, because only 0.3% of PVPers in a given week get between 13k and 12001k. So if you had 1000 people PVPing in that week, 3 get RP like that (with the top player getting 13k), and then increasing on down, in pyramidal fashion.
For example, last week I earned enough honor to put myself at a high enough standing to earn 10900 RP, having been #9 or so in honor gains out of 1000. I had 47960 RP (rank 11), so after decay, I was at 49352 RP. If I similar gain 10900 this week, I will pass 50,000 RP and hit rank 12. In order to get to rank 13 or 14, I will need to earn a higher standing each week (and thus more RP), which means I’ll be waiting for the people who are currently there to reach R14 and drop out of competing.
My understanding from what you said is that the more honor i earned, the higher my ranking will be on the list. That list is then used to determine how much rank points i earn that week?
Correct.
The exact amount of honor can vary - but what matters is how much you earned compared to others, and how many people were involved in PVP on your server/faction that week.
It’s also impossible to earn more than 13,000 RP per week, no matter what you do - even if you somehow grind millions of honor, you won’t exceed that. There is however some funky math to it, such that it’s not actually absolute ranking in the standings, as it is that plus comparison.
So like, let’s say there are 1000 players PVPing, and the top player earns 1 million, the next guy 900k, and the next guy 800k. They’d be something like 13k, 12600, 12300, respectively. But if instead they earned 801k, 800.5k, and 800k, they’d earn 13k, 12.9k, and 12.9k. (Player 4 still wouldn’t earn more than 12k though, unless more people were PVPing)
I’m not an expert on the math, but that’s a basic explanation. It’s also why (in part) people prefer to cooperate and set target caps on honor gains, since it’s possible to slice the pie up so people earn more that way.
Thank you, very much, Shaedra.
