Dear Developers,
I am writing to you as I have encountered a bug with the transition from Classic WoW to Classic TBC. In original TBC when the 2.3 pre-patch went live, players experience bars were adjusted by percentage. This quote is taken from an archived blue post: ‘For example, if a character had exactly 50% of the current level’s total experience before this change went into effect, the character would still have exactly 50% of the current level’s total experience; only now fewer points would be needed to level’.
However in TBC Classic patch 2.5 the experience has been changed so that when you transition a character from Classic WoW to TBC Classic, instead of their experience bars being set to the same % they are now set to the new value. For example, my level 29 rogue was at 90% into level 29 (with 10% experience left - 2 bars), when transitioning to TBC Classic however he was put at 1 experience from leveling. This is not following the original TBC protocol and is a bug.
To add on, I’ve also encountered the same issue and it has negatively impacted my experience, I transitioned into TBC with 88% to 90% xp and logged in to see that I had 1xp and 100% xp left before the next level.
Noticed this with copies on Beta as well, and it persisted to Classic TBC/prepatch.

The blue post that describes the original mechanic is archived here:

As mentioned above by others, I was also negatively impacted by this bug. Was ~90-95% into lv 29 prior to TBC pre-patch and had 1 exp (99%) to lv 30 in TBC pre-patch.
Blizzard definitely needs to find a way to retro-actively fix this. I know of many players who are now stuck at 1 exp away, when they are trying to stick to the top of a certain level bracket (10-19, 20-29, etc.).
Blizzard, this bug has people terrified of logging onto their twink characters. It has us taking a risk whenever trying to play the game, on the off chance they might get a single point of experience. This wasn’t how the xp squish worked in TBC. It was percentage based, it didn’t bring players to 1xp to level. This was addressed when it was noticed on the PTR, but it still got brought to live on launch.
This was sadly only one of the many bugs prepatch/tbc has brought to the game. I know you’re working on fixing them, but there have already been casualties to this bug. Twinks have been accidentally leveled, despite taking precautions prior to the change, and having plenty of xp to work with to buffer against leveling. The fact that blizzard support won’t even assist the players who did level due to the bug is really disappointing. Each of those characters represents a huge investment of time and money.
Beware also that some quests like https://tbc.wowhead.com/quest=11338/call-to-arms-warsong-gulch are completely bugged right now: they gave me the full (intended for level 69?) 12650 xp to my level 19 (!) which caused my twink to level to 20 which I am desperately hoping to get reversed by someone at blizzard - please please please
That sucks to hear. Bumping to help our favorite small indie company.
