Experience from archaeology?

Unless I’m mistaken, archaeology used to give character exp during original Cata but that does not seem to be the case here. I’m struggling to find any sure evidence of this but wondering if it was overlooked/bugged. Can only find some old forum posts from ~2011 talking about it. I know it was pretty bad exp (like 1 mob kill per node)

It definitely didn’t give experience

Herb and mining did, not archaeology.

found some 2010 videos from cata launch (post launch, not beta) about archaeology, it did 100% in fact give experience per node pick up

I don’t know what these other replies are talking about, Archaeology ABSOLUTELY used to give xp, I leveled my death knight almost exclusively with it. Now, the question I’m having is whether xp was added to it later in the expansion, or if that came with MoP or something. But it for sure gave it at some point in WoW’s life.

“New to Patch 4.0.1, mining, herbalism, and archeology grant XP. Skinning does not grant XP Frowney. This experience gain is actually larger than a mob kill by 2x to 4x (at pre-60 levels, the multiplier varies wildly as level mismatches between herbs/ore gathered and mobs fought can be great).”

Terrible quality but pay attention to the center of screen when he digs it up and loots it. Granted xp. This is from 13 years ago, while Cata was live content.

Random forum post from MOP as well confirming it was still granting xp even then.
