I realize this is a SUPER noob question, but I have just started on a destro warlock. I keep seeing that expedient is recommended (please correct me if that’s a misconception!) I know I can buy a rank from Mother, but I can’t for the life of me find out where I can get rank 2. I don’t have any ranks unlocked from a main/alt so I am kind of stuck starting from scratch on this warlock.
Also, I have been reading guides and paying attention to the forum. However, if anyone can tell me what essences and traits I should be aiming for, that would be greatly appreciated.

Corruption ranks don’t have an unlocking system. You either get them by pure RNG on looted gear (like war/titan forge was) or you buy them from Mother.
Mother offers a random selection which changes twice a week. So you just have to wait for the ones you need to be available.

Azerite traits to aim for:
Flash Point x 3 for big haste
Crashing chaos x 2-3 if wanting only ST
Rolling Havoc x 2 optimally for Cleave / AoE
For essences you want to aim for:
Major- Vision of perfection (with crashing chaos traits) or World Vein resonance if no crashing chaos available
Minor - Reaping flames, Focusing iris, vision of perfection if using WV major, Conflict and strife is using Vision Major.
You want a LOT of haste on gear if possible but make sure to sim yourself as well.
Expedient 3 stacking is a must when it comes back around on vendor. This allows for big haste build for more chaos bolt stacks during infernal window.
General opener which is VERY important includes:
- Pre cast Cataclysm with 2 seconds left on pull.
- Drop infernal.
- Cast 1-2 chaos bolts then spam incinerate
- With 22 seconds left on infernal pop WV major then darksoul+trinket ( if using VoP major use DS+ trinket at 20 seconds left on infernal)
This makes your cd’s line up with the last 20 seconds of infernal for biggest dmg.

We’ve actually been really lucky to have some rank of expedient available each week till now. Currently rank 1 is available which goes away tomorrow. Rank 3 should then be available exactly 2 weeks later. 5k for a rank 3. So I would start saving for that I guess.
Depending on how fresh your alt is, since you’re posting on your rogue, gives you 2 weeks to collect a few good pieces to put the corruption on.
as said above, expedient 3 is either a random roll on a piece or you get it from Mother when the next rotation comes around.
major essences would be VOP, Lucid; MInors would be Breath of the dying, focusing iris, Formless void, conflict and strife (Lucid or VOP as set and forget minor based on what your major is).
your ideal essence setup for cleave/AOE: 3FP/2RH/1CC + VOP Major
single target setup is trickier because destro isn’t exactly a god at single target like we are at cleave. Probably something like 3FP, 2HOD (raid trait), 1CC with Lucid Major. I haven’t seen anyone using worldvein but that could be due to having the better options already available, so while i won’t discredit the post above i don’t see it as optimal, but could be a decent stand-in for a short while.
Im actually prefering Lucid major atm with high haste.
I pop it with 16 seconds left on infernal and go ham. Some fights my VoP barely procs and i hate the rng variance

But sometimes it procs enough to keep GoSup rolling through to your next infernal

Yeh i had 6 infernals out at once in underrot dog boss. But thr next boss, 1 proc.

I don’t know how to get gear with more haste. I have 19% haste.
