With how sub-par the elite sets are next season, and how disjointed they all feel, I suspect a large portion of the casual base is just not going to be queueing. Makes me wonder if solo shuffle queues are going to get even worse since priests are likely to be the only healers queuing. I imagine there will be plenty of them though trying to get their set, as it is the only one that objectively looks good. Some of the sets are ok, but man, xmog is supposed to motivate people to push rating, and it just… isn’t there.
So what does that leave to grind, the glad mount? A slightly yellow and black ugly sub par mount that matches exactly zero of the xmogs (with possible exception to shams) and looks like a derpy cloud serpent with tiny wings when flying?
The weapon enchant isn’t bad, though it literally will match exactly nothing. Then there’s a bunch of tempo titles that reset each season. Tabard is decent enough, better than a lot of the past seasons in that it at least has kind of a design on it…
The season is named Obsidian, yet none of the rewards match that naming at all, if the rewards even match each other. My friend pointed out that it feels like instead of designing xmogs, they looked through a backlog of unused random sets and threw them all together as the elite sets… Minus the priest set, which could have been a holdover from legion given the quality. The rest looks like they came from a virtual goodwill store.
my biggest gripe is the tabard. too similar to s1, same corny graphics, and doesn’t look very “obsidian”
since i’ve been good enough to get a pvp tabard in legion, there hasn’t been any that can hold the jock of the ones in wrath through wod, and i’m bummed about it. every year they just get more and more quest green esque
Guess time will tell, I am interested to see how meta will shift around with the new changes to cc and such. I’ll be mostly focusing on M+ since the color variants for S2 are better on the PvE side than PvP.
I still do wish they lowered the reward requirements for pvp. Example being able to collect previous elite sets if you attained the rating appropriate to the level, it would push more players to farm for it but this would also upset the balance of people’s participation trophy.
But to be fair, I don’t think anyone above 2500+ even gives a damn about cosmetic stuff but I could be wrong.
I can guarantee you all the people who have elite sets but 0 glad mounts would 100% care and im pretty sure that is the biggest population bar the lower mmr brackets, they are also the loudest minority to these things.
I miss my wrathful tabard. Rip me being stupid and getting myself permaed in cata. I feel like there’s more of a pattern out of next season’s tabards, but yeahhhh the tabard design is really lackluster 95% of the time.
I mean… it’s 1800, I don’t know how you lower it much more than that, especially with solo shuffle being a thing.
I’d be more okay with recolors of sets for reaching X rating.
It would be a feelsbadman moment if the 3 elite sets I got during low participation seasons in legion just suddenly became available during a super inflated season. Granted there are mage tower recolors for those elite sets now.

I mean overhaul with how rewards are distributed in general. 1800 is still something that apparently is difficult to attain for some folks despite with RSS being out. Making rewards accessible to even a more entry point helps expand player base but blizz first needs to give the attention it gives to pve to pvp before even considering such a system to begin with because in the current state, I would say it’s actually turning me off especially with the whole 10.7 patch fiasco.

Yeah, at least something, I just think it’s a waste of resources for cool concepts to never be seen. I forgot the last time I seen any elite appearances from say WoD or Legion.

I have every mage tower weapon appearance and honestly I wouldn’t care if they brought it back because it doesn’t affect me on that level. You having an a rare appearance vs you having an exclusive title that 0.01% players get is a big diff. Even then most people don’t even care. It’s not like your achievements in game follow you IRL and define you lol.
I think the elite sets are rather nice aside from the bland color scheme most will share. Overall I think shuffle will be just as popular, but 3’s may die even more. I have a feeling that many of the people who failed to get Glad in S1 won’t even try in S2 and nobody else from that level or below will have any reason to subject themselves to the LFG system. I know the devs have something planned to help curb shuffle inflation and help premade inflation, but I’m very skeptical it could be anywhere near enough without some comical behind the scenes manipulation.
I mean… that’s just honor sets / baseline conquest sets imo.
That did feel like it made the season turn into a meme. Doesn’t matter if I was castweaver, people are always going to see me and be like “stupid OP fistweavers”. Imagine being an h pally this season, actually progressing through the ladder and what not, just to have people assume you played ret when it was OP. Just kinda destroyed the integrity of the season entirely.
My set is season 3 legion elite. =P
Doing mage tower just for a weapon was a bit overkill feeling. I have a few of the mage tower appearances, but mainly just the bear form / kitty form ones (plus the mistweaver staff). They did end up ressing the bear form with a cooler variant, which is slightly annoying just cause I’m too lazy to regrind that new variant lol.
It is and it isn’t. I put in a lot of work to get appearances on alts that I wouldn’t normally play, on a very limited deadline. It actually stressed me out because I was worried I’d fumble and not make it in time. My mistweaver it was no big deal since it was my main, I grinded the set in less than a week for it, and I wasn’t really aiming for it. The alts I was putting in the RBG grind / 2’s grind on, and that was absolutely miserable.
Lot of people play and push to flex in game because real life is underwhelming. Devaluing a selling point of the game isn’t a great idea, as it’s a large part of the game cycles in WoW.
You mean like how they completely botched the 3s inflation season 1, or how they didn’t put the S1 weapon illusion in the game until about a month before the season ended? lol.
Tabard, illusion and whatnot being put in mid-season was fine and they did make a post about how they wouldn’t be ready initially. What’s rough is that they put in the pennant but only as a retroactive reward for s1 legend and with short notice.
I don’t think it matters. I think letting people go exchange saddles for old elite sets would be good and would drive participation up. It wouldn’t bother me seeing people using old sets I earned because I already have the appearance and I earned it ages ago. Unpopular opinion I know. I think it would drive population upwards tho
If they were to reimplement legacy elite sets I think that they should probably work on a sort of token/saddle system, but not actually saddles.
Here’s an example: for each game won above 2100 (or maybe 2400?) rating you fill a bar (similar to saddles) which can be exchanged for a single old elite set. Limit of 1 token per class (or char?) per season.
