“At the time of this writing, a video is supposed to be released today addressing the issue, but has not yet been made available internally or elsewhere.”

The heck is massivelyop? I have seen more websites I have never before heard of over the past few days that are being passed off as major news outlets. How are these tiny unknown websites getting this “leaked” information on things like internal discussion or planned video releases over someplace with more credibility and history?

I imagine because that’s the website the anonymous employee chose to contact.

Good ol’ Blizzard.
Once again getting ahead of an issue before it gets out of hand.

While I am always skeptical of anonymous leakers.
The idea that the company internally is struggling with communication on the issue, and legal teams are double checking the PR response, is pretty plausible to explain the silence.

It’s 5pm on a Friday with a federal holiday on Monday. I wouldn’t hold my breath.
Just saying what they said.
All the more reason to release something today rather than after the weekend.
They released a statement:

Sounds like he just said while every voice matters, those which support Hong Kong matter less. Therefore six month suspensions for all involved with non-state-approved speech.
The rest of you, who support political views supporting China will have no consequences.

No, they basically said that using a gaming platform for political speech is a big nono.
Another ignorant view on the pile I suppose.
Blitzchung’s penalty would have been the same regardless of the message he sent, because it wasn’t the message that caused him to get punished, it was the act of sending it.
He’d have gotten the same penalty if he had shouted MAGA 2020, Impeach Trump or literally any other political movement.

You’re joking, right? You really believe that Blizzard would anger China by punishing a pro-China statement???
Obviously the punishment would NOT have been the same since Blizz found out they made the wrong decision and are getting pushback.
It’s quintessentially Blizzard to release everything soon™. This applies to PR statements too.

Pushback from anyone that matters? Because their stockholders seem pretty pleased with the upward trend on ATVI.

Pretty much.
Chances are, none of the protests forced the statement.
Those statements take time to craft and word correctly, then need to be looked over by lawyers and then the board
^^^^^ This,A gaming tournament isn’t a political rally, divisive, real world politics have no place in gaming! People seemed to state this yet some still seem to want to continue and politicize the issue on a gaming forum, people can’t have their cake and eat it too. Blitz broke the rules, was punished as anyone else would have for breaking a rule and realizing the punishment was too harsh Blizzard did their damnedest to make it right, reduce the punishment and give the prize money over. As Carhagen just said,it would be the same damn thing if it were US politics with pro or anti Trump jargen,UK politics with Brexit and if there were life on other planets politics on those damn dirty Martians. I dunno what people were wanting or what more they could want? By everyone’s reaction an apology wouldn’t do anything as they’d be accused of backpeddling by all the sudden armchair patriots spouting about “them evil commies”. Blizzard could be dead and gone and they’d still be defecated on for some reason. Just seems like people wanna get mad and stay mad at any little thing in the world [yet we still have an ish tone of problems here that have yet to be resolved]
Too true.
Seems it’s also quintessential Blizzard for everything they release to be severely lacking in any substance too.
“Obviously the punishment would not have been the same”
Based on what? Seriously, based on what? Where’s your evidence that cements it other than your tinfoil hat theory?
Maybe the FACT that after the public outrage they backed down on the punishment?
How does backing down prove that it wouldn’t have been the same punishment (resulting in backing down as well)?
