I just acquired the ‘Path of the Full House’ teleport it got me thinking: instead of having thousands of different teleports for thousands of different places, each with an eight-hour cooldown, wouldn’t it be more viable to have a unique Hearthstone for each expansion?
These could function just like the original Hearthstone, where players talk to any innkeeper within that specific expansion’s zone to set that expansion’s Hearthstone as their new return point. This would make it much easier for players to return exactly where they desire.
Additionally, it would be cool to have a special Hearthstone with functionality similar to the old Flight Master’s Whistle from Legion and BFA that exclusively teleports you to the main capital city of the expansion you’re currently in, making returns to the capital much more convenient!
As for the toys with various animations, they could function like glyphs that you apply to each of these expansion-specific Hearthstones, giving each one a different animation.

For consistency’s sake, I’d prefer to continue with what we’ve been doing with the teleports.

i think this would be a pretty big disservice to mages. portals have been an iconic part of their class from the very beginning of the franchise. i’d rather not see that also get removed because the theme park isn’t already easily navigable for some people tbh

Would it be any less inconvenient to not have a dozen different hearthstones? At least portals don’t take space in my bag.
Also I would HEAVILY recommend the addon “Teleport Menu” that puts all your teleports (including Hearthstones) on your in-game menu and sorts them by expansion/season.

They kind of started doing that.
Garrison HS = WOD
Dalaran HS = Legion
But then stopped for whatever reason. Personally I liked having those HSs in my bag.

There are several portal items;
Old Dalaran has a ring.
The tournament grounds has a tabard.
Boralus also has a ring.
MoP has a trinket.
There may be others I’m forgetting.

Get your 3 capital city capes. Use them, then the portal.
Feel like its already easy to get around with he dalaran hearth and garrison hearth.

And always will be so to the individual.
Honestly I haven’t used a mage portal out of necessity in ages. With guild cloaks, hearthstones and current portal system plus the teleports earned in M+, the need for mage portals is already nonexistent.
It’s a great tool for individual movement, but not a sought after commodity like in the past.

I wish we could just click the city on the map and port there.
Hearthstones and other translocation items should reside in a flyout menu.

I mean, I wouldn’t be interested in putting ALL the xpac hearths on my bar, just the 2 or 3 where I’m farming something.
I think this post comes from a place where you get 8 new portals a season. That adds up fast, and navigating that with blizzard’s archaic UI/UX is for the birds.
I’m very part-time since SL, if that, and even I have too many dungeon portals that I’ll literally never use, they are just spellbook noise.
Well, it’s certainly not the first time I’ve seen such a suggestion, yet at the same time is it REALLY needed?
Think about it. At baseline, EVERYONE can easily get the following:
- Standard Hearthstone
- Garrison Hearthstone
- Broken Isles Dalaran Hearthstone
Regardless of faction, a quick hearth to Dalaran can have you standing in your faction capital’s portal room inside of a minute. Also, depending on your class, you might have a way to port to your class hall directly:
- Death Gate
- Dreamwalk
- Teleport: Hall of the Guardian
- Zen Pilgrimage
Granted, DG and the mage port are more or less additional ports to Dalaran with an extra step, but if you purposely do NOT start Legion content on a DK, then your gate essentially becomes an Eastern Plaguelands port. The other two either put you in Kalimdor or Pandaria depending on your class. If you’re vulpera, you’ve got your camp racial. that can be set nearly ANYWHERE outdoors.
Honestly, there’s not a single place in this game that one cannot get to inside of five minutes between all the portal options and a flying mount. I really don’t think additional Hearthstones for each expansion are needed. There’s also the fact that some areas either have overlap or are going to have overlap in the future. For example: Qual’thalas. It’s physically located on the Burning Crusade world server as the old portal between the Plaguelands and Ghostlands was once technically an account key verification all the way back in 2007. You literally couldn’t enter those zones if you didn’t have TBC. In any case, while it is on the BC world server, it is technically an Eastern Kingdoms zone, and based on what we know so far about Midnight, the intention is for it to serve as the central hub, which may or may not come with a world revamp that gets the Eastern Kingdoms out of the Cataclysm era (fingers crossed)
So, I ask you this: if we had a Hearthstone for EVERY expansion, then would I be allowed to use my Classic, TBC, and MN hearths for JUST Quel’thalas, or would that be locked to just the BC hearth?
Anyway, I think we’re good with what we have.
You shouldn’t have any hearthstones in your bags. Pull em from your toys tab and onto a bar.

I am your expansion hearthstone. I need to feel important.

Teleport doesn’t have a cd and doesn’t fill your bag, you can also pretty much buy all of the teleport spells for a dungeon run or two. Also no one has paid for a portal in years except to be able to visit expansion hubs below the level.
Black temple neck was my go to when I was farming glaives.
What would be an improvement would be a full update to the travel system, like open map, teleport at will to any ‘hub’ city (or at least port to portal central), with hearthstones remaining to bind for travel to remote inns.
Add a cooldown on teleport with a gold cost to bypass, and let mages have free teleport / portals to hubs as well as give them access to portals in other locations outside hubs.
Adding more crap to keep up with in addition to all the existing hearthstones, toys, cloaks, rings, and other doodads like mole machines would be going in the wrong direction.
An alternative would be to just clean up all the extraneous stuff like toys, cloaks, trinkets, rings and doodads with teleport functions for easier access.
use tome of teleportation addon.
And we should all just be able to port when and wherever we want to cities at this point, with minor inconvenience we already can anyway.
The Garrison was our base for an expansion that had no city and no connection to anything, as it was a pocket universe. So the hearth to it made sense.
The Dalaran hearth was done, I think, because they didn’t want people going to a wrong portal and left Wrath Dalaran as it was.
Neither do the hearthstones, as our regular one, Dalaran one and Garrison one are toys.
