Expansion Cinematics: Which is the Worst?

Personally, I didn’t even realize the Shadowlands official cinematic was the Sylvanas vs Bolvar fight until today. That’s how unimpressive it was to me. It’s easily my least favorite and left me with zero hype.

Contrary to that, my favorite cinematics are the Vanilla and BC ones with a broader focus on races and classes. I still yell, “You are not prepared!” now and again.

Both Wotlk and Cata were decent, focusing on the main villains. I particularly liked the voiceover work in those.

MoP really grew on me. At first, I wasn’t a fan because of the humor.

BFA was all right. It improved today, when I was informed the Dwarf Hunter from the Vanilla cinematic makes an appearance, solving a 15 year mystery for me as to whether or not the Dwarf or the Tauren won that fight in front of Ironforge. Also, Genn looked amazing in CGI. More worgen CGI, please!

Update: I rewatched WoD, and I’m putting that even higher than MoP (for me), because that might be the best part of that expansion. Also, I watched Legion’s again, and that’s a great one too.

My favorite is BFA and my least favorite is Shadowlands

Least fav was WoD. I was just so done with orc drama

At least Shadowlands has that big payoff with the sky shattering. Watching folks react to it at blizzcon was pretty fun

The reason I personally dislike Shadowlands is because it doesn’t even feel like an expansion trailer to me. Just a cinematic to compliment the expansion if you know what I mean.

Ha! I completely left WoD’s off my list. So I guess it’s safe to say that’s one of my least favorites too.

I didn’t care for the payoff. The sky falling or breaking was insignificant after watching a Lich King get stomped like a chump. Does Sylvanas ever actually lose a fight…or struggle…ever?

eh I like that it doesn’t reveal too much of the shadowlands yet. It leaves the viewer wanting to possibly play so we can go see just what the heck is going on

I’ll be honest, I’m a bit underwhelmed with Shadowlands because it kinda goes against everything that is built up with the Lich King arc.

Like there just always be a Lich King. Without its master’s command, the restless scourge will become even greater threat of this world.

Decent? Both those were freaking awesome. I still get chills rewatching it today.

I don’t like the Shadowlands one. Nothing interesting really happened from a cinematic perspective. Ohh no she broke the helm of domination while being edgy. Compare that to the badassery of illidan or the WoD cinematic with garrosh saving his father and like no thats not good.

All the other ones are pretty good though. Anduin reviving all his army in the BFA one while yelling for the alliance was pretty cool. Probably the second worst for me. But god was the WoD one and Wrath/BC ones cool.

I still remember getting goosebumps at deathwing just saying “Pain…agony…” at the start of his cinematic

To be fair deathwing was getting his armor put on and it was very painful.

It’s not like Deathwing was a pizza cutter. Ya know. All edge and no point

Least BFA gave us Zappy Boi and just seeing a troll in fancy cgi

And Sylvs voice actor shouting FOR THE HORDE got me to resub after taking a break to skip WoD.

Yeah, figured I’d throw out my opinion to get the ball rolling.

I actually like the Deathwing trailer a lot more than Wotlk. To me though, most of that trailer is plates getting hammered into Deathwing.

I find them only decent because I can’t watch them over and over like I can Vanilla, BC, and MoP. So, it’s more decent as compared to the others.

Cataclysm was my first expansion launch since I joined sometime when Ulduar was new. So it holds a special spot in my heart.

Just seeing parts of the world getting wrecked and seeing the zeppelin in Org crashing.

The main thing about the Wrath cinematic is the voiceover by the king. And the lich king still looks pretty cool.

Yeah, personally I like all the cinematics (minus shadowlands, not rewatching that) but I can understand where you are coming from liking these more.

Shadowlands is probably my least favorite. But only because it starred Sylvanas, and I can’t stand her. But as a cinematic and overall the fight itself, it was fantastic as they always are.

All of the others are great. It’s hard to choose a favorite. MoP and WoD might be the top two. And I like the adventurous theme of vanilla and BC.
