Exp from older Pet Battles

Can anyone explain why when I am doing Shadowlands Pet Battles with my lvl 64 that is in DF too…whey some battles in SL only give me 1640 exp and others give me 5,000 exp in SL…yes I am on rested exp too…there is also a added 200 exp listed separately in the chat window…on each fight I win…

Trying in Bastion with a DF-qualified level 64, rested and Warmode off.

Jawbone, a WQ, 1617 XP. First time this alt did the fight also got 400 XP from the WQ. Subsequent battles, both with and without a carry pet, 1617 again, but of course no WQ credit.

Wild pet battles gave me 4800 XP.

Not sure why the slight difference in battle XP between your results and mine. Or why you only got 200 XP for the WQ and I got double that.

I meant I was getting another 200 exp listed in the chat window along with either 1640 or 5,000…I just did dailies pet battles in SL and two gave me 1,640 plus 200 the other two gave me 5,000 plus 200 exp…my alt was on rested exp and lvl 65 not 64 …

Ah, that’d explain the 200. The WQ XP goes down as your alt’s level goes up. Also it’s unaffected by rested or Warmode status, and is same for both Alliance and Horde.

For 60-61 it’s 1000, 62 is 800, 63 - 600, 64 - 400, 65 -200, 66 to 69 - 100.

I of course agree it seems silly to give much lower XP for winning a WQ pet battle than any of the wild pet battles. But then Blizzard can do pretty much anything they want.

CORRECTION: Turns out the XP is affected by Warmode. Not sure about Rested.

But why are the same level pet battles giving different exp …two give 1,640 and then the other two give 5,000 all in same expansion zones now with in a few mins of doing them all…for that day…

I’d figured there was a simple answer. Silly me.

Would make some sense that the repeatable pet battles would reward lower XP. Checked out some of the usual WQ battle pets that were NOT up today and that seemed to explain it … like Nightfang and Rascal in Ardenweald only giving a third of the XP that a normal wild pet would. Then tried Faryl, and got 4800. Fought him a second time and 4800 again.

Same experience in Maldraxxus – Gorgemouth gave me 1617 but for Dundley Stickyfingers it was 4800.

One thing that was consistent, the battles that only gave 1617 showed up as a yellow pawprint on mini-map, the others didn’t show on map at all.

My guess here is that it’s a bug, and we know pet battle bugs have a way low priority for fixing.

And again getting strange amounts of exp from SL pet battles…just did the 4 in SL…3 of them gave me 4900 exp and the 4th one gave me 1617…I am still on rested exp with my toon…they are level 64 though all the pet battles…no heirloom gear on them…It just baffles me why the up and down exp from SL pet battles I am going to go do the BfA ones and see what happens there…something just isn’t right…all though she is close to lvl 65 so there might be some change but not from 4900 too 1617…

Well this sucks…went to do BfA pet battles and not getting any exp not even 1 point…not worth doing them even for pet charms.

I have a 33 level sitting at the pet master Ashlei in Draenor who does the daily battle to level up pets (and older charms for older pets to sell) and get around 4.5k xp each time.

I just wish I could figure out why alts I am leveling up using pet battles in SL keep getting different amounts of exp …sometimes they get two different amounts though 4 dailies in SL…

Have been keeping track for past 3 weeks and seems consistent. Of the four possible WQ Pet Trainers in each zone, some always give a higher XP, some always a lower. Exact amount of course depends on your toon level and any XP buffs you have. Giveaway is whether they show up with a Yellow Pawprint over their head, and on minimap. If they have that, they’ll give you somewhere in mid-teens XP, without will be over 5K.

Doesn’t make any difference if they’re today’s WQ trainer, without that Pawprint you’ll get the higher XP, with it, the lower one.

No idea what the dev’s reasoning is behind this, or even if there is one. And of course could change at any time.

EDIT If you’ve turned Pet Tracking off, Yellow Pawprint won’t show on map, and need to actually mouse over the pet to see the Pawprint.
