Jesus christ, I’d do anything to get exorcism and seals back especially empowered seals from WoD. Exorcism fits the paladin fantasy perfectly and It gets replaced with an ugly !@!@$! runeblade that pops out of nowhere from the ground. It makes no sense. Yeah exorcism was pretty useless in vanilla, but in TBC at least many of the enemies were demons so it was usable most of the time.
If I had exorcism, seal system with empowered seals, old divine storm, and the old avenging wrath animation I’d actually play my paladin again. My pally has been dead to me since Legion.
I really wish they didn’t absolutely ruin paladin in Legion. I simply don’t understand why they thought they could (or should) destroy the paladin’s fantasy. Paladin’s are so cool, and very iconic to warcraft. What has happened to the class I love?
I thought Ret was amazing in Legion. With Auto Bubble I could actually survive and kill rogues that would Fan of Knives people for 500K through subterfuge so sometimes you wouldn’t even see yourself die.
Crusade + DP gave me so much burst I could kill Bear’s and Blood DK’s in WPvP when tanks were at their most broken.
Not to mention the Wake of Ashes DoT and 20 yard ranged Divine Storm.
They just replaced it with more fantasy-esque abilities I guess. Blade of Justice is clearly the same ability: hard hitting high holy power generating ability with a cooldown.
Thing is, I don’t see how summoning a runeblade from the ground fits the “holy crusader” class fantasy more than literally ripping the evil out of someone with a blast of holy light.
Blade of Justice seems more like a DK thing than anything. Half their theme is rune weapons and raising things from the ground, Blood even has a cooldown that summons a rune weapon for them.
Ok so my two cents is this, how is summoning a 2h sword from the ground to impale your target our class fantasy. And before Ashbringer most paladins used maces. That is why the whole tbc advertisement had a Draenei with a big crystal 2h mace. Arthas himself used a 2h mace well untill he went all evil and picked up Frostmourne.
Exorcism is something that sounds like a paladin would do and would have as an ability. It should return and replace BoJ.
Well at least you see some of what Enhancement Shamans have had to deal with for a while now. Welcome to being the red headed step child of blizzard.
thiis, paired with ashbringer becoming corrupted lead me to believe that paladins using swords was a sign of corruption back in the day.
I’m personally not a fan of BoJ, I think it made enough sense when we had ashbringer, but without it I’d like to see it replaced with exorcism, or at least a glyph to change it.
Could be I always found it interesting blizzard actually had a Corrupted Ashbringer drop from Vanilla Nax. Also do not forget the Corrupted Ashbringer skin for the artifact.
Well what Hyral was saying that it does not make since that BoJ is physical damage. Cs is also physical damage, everything else we have is holy or radiant damage. Wake of Ashes says radiant damage. I am wondering if BoJ is supposed to be like Frost DK’s Obliterate. Obliterate does physical damage and everything else is frost.
I know I just got off on a side rant but I do agree that BoJ is an ugly ability and the fact it does physical damage is also an issue.
Paladins in full plate rocking up at some place in late hours to expel demons from someone possessed. Yeah totally sounds like something, priests wouldn’t do traditionally.
You can’t just have everything do Holy/Radiant damage though because there’s no inherent resistance and it’s unaffected by armor. WotLK was good, too good, because nearly everything did holy damage and bypassed armor.
They’d probably have to turn the numbers nob down if they converted everything to holy/radiant.
If they brought back exorcism they to replace BoJ, for whatever god forsaken reason, they’d have to tune down the damage from both the increased range + lack of armor/resistance.
If they brought back exorcism it would just be a neutered range poke. Not some nostalgic nuke.
Yeah and Smite is a priest spell, totally not something paladins traditionally would do, going out to smite evil and all. No not all.
WoW might have it backwards, but if you look at the archetypal depictions of a paladin and priest. Your not going to see Priests running around to Smite evil or Paladin off preforming Exorcisms.
But hey If you want to swap the names around of Smite and Exorcism, even the animations too. I’d be all for it replacing Blade of Justice, even though I still do like Blade of Justice.
Smite has literally been THE iconic paladin ability since 1st ed dnd. But yes exorcism and smite having been swapped names since the beginning has bothered me being a pally main at heart since early early dnd days
Change Blade of Justice to Hand of Justice, and make the effect be a golden light version of whatever weapon you are wielding and have it fly out to smash whatever you target it with.
