Developers’ note: With the Paladin talent trees in Dragonflight, we wanted to embrace the class’ knight heritage and the full breadth of its group stewardship. In the class tree, Paladins will see your utility front-and-center, and whether you prefer the fantasy of the crusader or the guardian, we hope that new options such as Seal of the Templar, Recompense, and Afterimage will help you lean into your vision. Blessing of Spellwarding has additionally been made class-wide. Protection Paladins will find a returning Eye of Tyr in your spec tree, as well as an array of options to tailor and enhance many of your signature abilities (both offensive and defensive) to best emphasize your own playstyle. Retribution Paladins will find options that integrate Consecration into their core rotation, a new vision for the returning ability, Exorcism, and other ways of obtaining Holy Power depending on playstyle in addition to new and returning enhancements to their iconic abilities.
Seal of the Templar, Recompense, and Afterimage - These sound interesting… i wonder what they do.
Blessing of Spellwarding has additionally been made class-wide. - i was 99% sure they’d make that class-wide, always wanted it as ret!
Retribution Paladins will find options that integrate Consecration into their core rotation - so it’ll be more powerful… right? xD
a new vision for the returning ability, Exorcism - what form will it take though? Can’t wait to see.
If exo still has something like a 15 sec cd, it’s not gonna give us loads of holy power like BoJ.
I’d prefer exo to be a small nuke or do something special on a small-med cd.
Datamined talents list is up, time to see what’s what:
[![]Retribution Aura] When any party or raid member within 40 yards dies, you gain Avenging Wrath for 8 sec.
[NYI] When any party or raid member within 40 yards takes more than 50% of their health in damage, you gain Seraphim for 6s. Cannot occur more than once every 30s.
This is amazing… retribution aura finally does something nice without someone actually dying. lol
And here is the new Exorcism:
[Exorcism] Blasts the target with Holy Light, causing (125% of Attack power) Holy damage and burns the target for an additional (20% of Attack power) Holy Damage every 2 sec for 12 sec.
Applies the damage over time effect to nearby enemies if the target is standing within your Consecration and stuns undead targets for 5 sec.
I like what I’m reading but I think that this is the most interesting part of it to me.
If they are designing Paladins to be able to have different options for building holy power that can be tailored into modified rotations that better suit a players preferred playstyle then that would be an unprecedented shift in how classes have been designed since vanilla.
I’m very interested in seeing how that part plays out.
