yeah ngl, as an asssassination rogue player, I feel dirty and guilty every time I win a game by hunter dying through deter or someone dying right after getting cocooned.

No it’s just the functionality of the spell. IIRC it’s 35% in PVP or something, but yeah it effectively does overkill damage that can be absorbed. Things like sudden death just bypass mitigation shields.
Would it really have taken that long to Wowhead the spell you’re talking about?
Confirms it’s only 35% of the monks HP and it’s dealing damage. Right now health is around 11mil in PvP. That’s just under 4million damage. I don’t play shaman but isn’t bulwark only like 20% of your HP or something it works out at?
So ToD is working as intended and breaking through the shield and dealing the remaining damage which can kill you.
Sudden Demise however is bugged and doesn’t function like this the way Kill Shot, Execute etc does, and that needs looked at.
