Ok so it’s not a new thing that Engineering largely produces things that are useless to anyone but the engineer, going back to vanilla it was even spotty at best how useful it was for even the Engineer. That all changed with Wotlk when we started to see things other than guns and scopes that could be sold to other players. I dont want to so much make this a post about asking for more ways to make gold however. I more so wanted to make this a post about asking for the profession to at least be one that resembles more of what the profession used to look like. What I mean by that is a return to crafting all the components going into a product instead of this nonsense that’s been going on where I’m buying wiring and blasting caps because apparently i’ll never be a good enough engineer to figure out how to make those.
I would even be happy to see a return to needing materials that are crafted by other professions. anything but this constant need to buy from a vendor. I should need Gems for scopes, plating made by blacksmiths for various inventions, a special metal transmuted by alchemists, etc etc.
TLDR: Engineering, and for that matter, all professions are too simple and lack what I guess you could call “Profession Fantasy”
There is the mount from the pattern from Motherlode, but I agree engineering has lost a lot of it’s appeal as of late.
Only one pet and one mount so far that you can trade/sell to other players, the goggles, like the items from the 3 armor crafting professions are BOP, other than the bres item, engineers dont really have anything they can make money with, I’m not suggesting that the professions be balanced in terms of money making (let’s face it, none will ever top alchemy since everyone needs pots and flasks) or anything like that but engineering has always been about the crazy gadgets and contraptions you could make and this expansion is almost completely empty of them, heck we didnt even get a BFA jeeves variant.
Legion we got a new jeeves with Reeves, the bandage gun, the silly little turret, the auto hammers for repairs, two teleporters, the after combat res pylon, a pet and like 3 other crazy gadgets.
I used to really be a profession enthusiast, however I can’t even get into them for BfA. I have an engineer at 120, but haven’t even tried to level it up.
Still trying to figure out why we didnt get a teleporter toy in BfA. We have them going all the way back to classic for just about each expansion. At least give us the basics (and please make reeves and jeeves toys already)
Here, here. And since MoP there’s been no smelting either. There’s certainly an over simplification of profs in general, and engy in particular. Engineering has never been THE choice for crafting, except back when ammo was a thing … and exploding sheep of course. At times it used to get a bit frustrating, but I never considered dropping engy, it’s too much fun, or at least it used to be.
I agree with you guys. Leave suggestions on what you would like to see changed or made different. Maybe blizzard will be able to build on those suggestions.
The main thing I would like to see implemented is just an overall usefulness of all professions. The way I would like to see this implemented with engineers is for them to create sockets for gems and get rid of sockets as a random upgrade. In the past month I have received 5 upgrades (+15 item level) that unfortunately do not mean anything because of random sockets on the pieces I am already wearing.
It is just not that fun to get a 15 item level update and not be able to equip it. I have not had a max level engineer since WOD, so I am sure that others would have many more and better ideas than mine, but if I could make changes to the game that is one I would definitely put in.
If nothing else, two items made by Engineering, I’m finding as “must haves” in any toon’s bags. The glider and the skimmer. Yes, I know engy has the glider for the cloak, and most people have some form of water transport, but I seriously love both of the items I mentioned. Other items can be said to be “handy” but on the whole you’re absolutely right, unfortunately.
in 8.2 we are getting a wormhole generator and a new blingtron 7000. i think it was stupid/lazy to not give us these items in the next patch. we really should have been given these items at the start of BFA
So if Blizzard gave us everything at the start of the expansion, we would be pissed mid-expansion when we got no new items to craft and would call them stupid and lazy. Sometimes they just got win.
While they still need to work on professions in general, especially how they handle spreading out new items throughout the expansion, they do need to work on spreading out recipes and schematics throughout the expansion. For instance a wormhole generator in 8.1 after scanning both new continents would have made more sense then brand new content, oh we figured out how to make a wormhole here already. And a new Blingtron, but NOT a new Blingtron…they need to iterate on the concept…would be best discovered in Mechagon, which they have been planning since before the start of BfA.
