Excavation Site 9

It’s a bit funny to me that they streamlined a lot of the mechanics in delves this season, but implemented the “stand around waiting for the drills for 30 minutes” story at the same time. Really wish there was a way to just go collect the stuff you need to fill the bar without having to wait for 6 drills to slowly summon their mobs.

I use the time to pre-cast or get into position, make sure cool downs are ready, etc. Cause once they start coming i want to have everything ready for the onslaught.

That being said I have to be in the mood for excav site 9. You can’t exactly stand still for more than a few seconds before spawning purple swirlies take over.

It also has a nice shortcut to the res stone so can skip some of that garbage, making it faster than it looks.

It’s such a chore to have to experience the game in something other than a mad rush to finish, even for a few seconds.

First World of Warcraft problems amirite?

That one is definitely a slog.

I hate the drill story. It makes the delve take twice as long.

Also, I can’t figure out what, if anything, makes those red circles suddenly target you for AoE attacks.

Rowdy Rift story will probably take me 6-8 minutes to complete at that delve.

The drill story I’m looking at close to 20 minutes, crazy part is the drill placements are RNG so you may have two together one run or they’ll be spread out in another.

When you’re trying to collect the “profits” but like 7 red circles create a venn diagram underneath you and will triger before you’re able to finish interacting with the object?

That’s so great.

The only thing I like about the drill story for ES9 is it has the easiest boss - he’s a total pushover.

was Hoping for horror like audo log, Stuff left behind crew so far, Just silly delve with no spook but “oh no old god stuff, Let get drill and dig up black blood, FOR MONEY!”

I am the type of person who reads all the quest text and does all the side-quests when new content drops. I have no problem with “experiencing the game.” I just find this sort of thing in repeatable content annoying. Like…they also gave us the sped-up option for Awakening the Machine waves which, while not making that event any more interesting, does at least let you get through it faster.

still feed jaded but I look to eveormeint try to get what story hapen what happen to the site, I still miss it when game back then use to do Auido logs and I can just let it play and hear horror unravel what happen before and until loger final moments.

I’m not a fan of this delve, but it’s still better than any underwater one. I hate Sinkhole a lot more than this one, because the only thing worse than fighting on hillsides, is fighting on a hillside underwater - even with the new water breathing buff you can buy.

I used to actively avoid the underwater ones. They’re not bad now that the breath mechanic is basically just “push a button every couple of minutes” instead of scrambling for a bubble.

I do get constantly turned around on the one where there’s the descending bridge thing over a chasm, though. Half the time I accidentally run back up where I came from thinking that’s where I’m supposed to be going. No idea why I have some mental block on that map.

My go to in ES9 is to set up a drill and keep moving to the next one. Once I have a steady flow of mobs to kill I’ll back track and pick up the stuff from each as the adds die. It doesn’t really save time, but just keeps it from being as boring ime.

i do like how es9 feels a little more like a zone at least, not a hallway. You can wander a decent bit off the beaten path. There’s nothing to find, but it’s still cool

You can trigger multiple drills at the same time, even if they’re not super close together.

But yeah I think they are pretty deliberate about adding mechanics that prevent you from just running through the the whole delve without stopping.

I only did that one enough to get the stories done and I will never do it again, it’s awful.

On the subject of this delve…

They really need to change the interaction function in the Rowdy Rift story, it’s annoying the cast time for closing a rift is interrupted because you magically somehow entered combat.

I’ll take a challenging boss after a quick run through trash at my own pace over a pushover boss after an artificially slow trash run that has extra padded time due to scripting.

LOL - the other day I got a pair of hobgoblins on either side of that bridge over the chasm, along with an underpins friend at the end - to say it was ‘interesting’ would be an understatement, especially as the hobgoblins charge telegraph was not showing and Brann was being exceptionally stupid.
