So two times in two days, I have been ganked by a lvl 60 on my lowbie shaman in both Gadgetzan and Booty Bay.
That’s fine… it happens on a pvp server. No biggie there.
What I’m curious about is how rep affects guards and ganking.
Situation 1: I’m by the Noggenfogger vendor and a 60 alliance mage starts free casting on me. No guards aggro the mage. I drop a grounding totem and the guards attack me and essentially help the 60 mage gank me.
Situation 2: 60 alliance rogue ganks a lvl 36 horde rogue by the dock where the boat comes in at booty Bay. After a few mins, the boat comes in, i see the lvl 36 hasn’t rezzed yet, so I rez him. I get attacked by the guards. I ankh so i don’t miss the boat, and the alliance 60 rogue kills me and again, no aggro from guards.
Can people freely gank in these neutral cities if they have exalted rep? Am I safe to assume that was the case in both of these situations?
No. If the guards notice someone attacking someone else who’s welcome in their city, they’ll intervene, because even if one of the participants is their favorite person they care more about the city not turning into a war zone.
Unfortunately, there are a number of ways to trick the guards into not noticing one, and dedicated Steamwheedle Cartel-town griefers tend to know them all.
I didn’t know grounding totem would cause aggro. Weird.
Never res someone who’s dead in BB. Sometimes the game registers the dead player as hostile and you will be hostile by proxy. Sometimes people intentionally do it in the hopes someone kind hearted will come along, res the person and get guard aggro.
In your situation are you sue the 36 didn’t fight back at all? I find it odd that if he didn’t you’d get attacked for ressing them. Regardless it’s a safe bet to just never res someone in BB. The graveyard is right outside. Let them walk back.
Your reputation status only helps someone who’s being attacked, but it shouldn’t help you if you’re attacking someone. In the first scenario if you had a high enough rep then the guards would help you, but only AFTER taking damage. Why they aggroed onto you for grounding totem I am not sure. I have never played a shaman. Doesn’t seem like it should work this way.
Also there are several gaps where the guards won’t aggro you while attacking players. That’s referred to as safespotting and it’s a reportable offense.
the attacker is lvl 60, his aggro to the gaurds is much shorter then ur lvl 44. so when ur totem snares the lvl 60 the guards see this cuz ur aggro is huge compared to his. so guards get on u and never notice him
