Exalted race reputation = learn the language

like if you get exalted with IF you can speak/understand dwarvish.

idk, i’ve always thought this would be cute lil addition.

Too late in the GAME for it to ever be accepted now, but if they had done that from the get go in 2004 it would have been great, lol.

idk why it would be to late, outside RP purposes having different languages from your allies seems to be useless. The only differing language with a good purpose is horde and alliance not being able to trash talk either… Alliance scum >.<

By you maybe, I for sure would go for it. Even if it was 10 years from now.

I don’t think those two are necessarily co-related: just think about Star Wars.

But I think it would be very cool to have a multiple questlines that would allow you to learn languages. Maybe they could take inspiration from Final Fantasy X, and the Al-Bhed language - you get to find books around the world, perform quests and deeds and learn the language over time.

Maybe it could start at Exalted with the faction, but I think exalted is too much.

Wow there buddy, that’s absolutely absurd! we can’t have that in the game.

On a more serious note though, i like the idea of learning the langage of respective rep factions, could even make it so you can converse with some NPCs you weren’t able to before to get unique quest chains ( like a fulborg in winterspring or something).

Archeage had the ability to learn the other factions language, it was time consuming and expensive but a neat addition. Unlocking it with rep seems a bit too easy. I’d rather the option to learn it be unlocked with rep. It should still be time consuming and expensive. If everyone was able to do it easily it would lose its uniqueness.

For opposing faction languages, it could be tied to BG rep or a specific honor rank.

It’s a skill so just have a tutor train it similar to AA. Every 24hrs you can pay for a class that yields x skill into that language.

It wouldn’t be completely unprecedented. Ironfoe proc lets you speak dwarven for 10 seconds.

Because races in Warcraft are xenophobic and a Dwarf would /never/ teach a Night Elf their language and vice-versa. Case closed.

unless…and hear me out…

They were viewed as exalted with them.

To be honest, the whole xenophobic behavior between fantasy races is always exacerbated in lesser medias: if you read the Lord of the Rings, there is no animosity between Legolas and Gimli - the movies, specially the Extended Versions, roll on it because it is a trope used by Hollywood so people that are not aware of the universe can get a better understanding of what is going on.

“This is for the shire. This is for frodo… and this is for me.”

You can literally replace any poorly written anime/movie/serie and it will fit:

“This is for Chun-Li. This one is for Ken… and this one is for me!”

As Caeldeth said, the reputation you develop over time gets you places where no one expected one to go, that is part of the journey. Take the Avatar movie, for instance: after some time you even got to merge your “tail” with not only the flora and fauna of the new place, but also with other members of the species aswell.

But you are not completely wrong when it comes to opposite factions - there is even a book written by Chris Metzen called Of Blood and Honor, that tells the story of Tirion Fordring - who was expelled by Uther for chosing to help an Orc that helped him before.

It would be far fetched in a game divided by two factions to learn the languages of another faction - although not impossible. But considering the limitations of the gameplay, I think it is just too out there.

But by making quests, earning reputation and learning the language little by little - within your own faction - for the achievements and some roleplay value - I would not have a problem with that at all.

I just wish it had something more than just “filled a bar, now can speak barbar.”
