Exact effect of 305 weapon skill in Battlegrounds

Does human or orc racial weapon skill give any effect in AV, WSG or AB? I know the vast majority will give idiotic answers, but remain hopeful that someone who can actually comprehend the question will answer.

I can’t remember if the weapon skill had an affect in PVP or not, so… maybe?

I have seen some supposed quotes of weapon skill and defense being “normalized” in pvp, whatever that means. Does that mean that 305 sword skill becomes 300 sword skill in Battlegrounds?

It’s basically 2-3% from memory. I think it’s something like 2.87% but it does have an effect in PVP, especially at capped level

Weapon skill is mainly a pve stat for melee classes, increasing your damage from glancing blows. You don’t have glancing blows in pvp so it’s useless in that aspect. It also slightly helps your hit and possibly ctit rating but I read it only helps your hit % in world pvp not bgs.

Weapon skill is mostly a raider stat. Skill increases your chance to hit/crit, and reduces enemy’s chance to block/parry/dodge. This is almost moot vs players, for a few reasons.

  1. At 5% hit, you’re already hit capped, unless they have a defense bonus. More hit from +skill is flushed. The slight boost is crit is quite irrelevant. Practically no one runs BGs as a tank spec or has defense items on them.
  2. Almost no one has a shield on either except armored healers.
  3. Many classes don’t have parry either.
  4. If you’re a warrior, an enemy dodging procs your overpower anyway.
  5. Whenever you’re behind enemy players, they lose all block/parry/dodge, regardless of skills. This means that timing your strikes for when you have a rear shot, will already bypass defenses.

In AV, skill is somewhat more useful because enemy NPCs can be 61-63. But there are no NPCs what so ever in WSG or AB. NPCs btw, can dodge from behind, meaning it is always in effect, regardless of where you swing. You can bypass their block/parry, just like players, but not dodge.

Weapon skill only reduces your chance to miss iirc.

Wow. None of you understood the question. Let me simplify. Do I get the .04 hit, .04 parry avoidance, .04 block avoidance and .04 dodge avoidance per weapon skill that it states in the tooltip? I am trying to find out IF MY 305 Sword skill WORKS in Battlegrounds?

your stats should be the same, regardless of the environment.

Weapon skill plays no part in pvp whatsoever, your weapon skill is always considered to be maximum your level allows.

Against players?

You get about .20% increased critical strike (from the 5 extra skill itself, .04% per point) and less than 1% hit. Considering you only need 3% hit to be capped, kinda useless.

Enjoy your PvE racial.

dodge still works from behind, doesn’t it?

Mobs can dodge from behind, meaning they ALWAYS have dodge.
Players only dodge from front.

Btw, dodge only works for melee in this game. There is no dodging bullets. Your evasion is totally worthless vs hunter arrows.

So looks like mixed opinions as to whether human/orc racial weapon skill actually works in Battlegrounds.

Yes this is actually the hardest wow question to answer in existence. Most people as you noted, don’t even understand the question.

ChatGPT says this (who knows how accurate it is though)

Me - so in wow vanilla player weapon skill is normalized in BGs. Presumably that means that all level 60 players have their weapon skill set to 300/300 while inside a BG. But what if I have 305 maces. +5 maces from my rogue talents. Does that +5 over the normal max of 300 give me a benefit in BGs against other players?

'In World of Warcraft Classic, player weapon skill is indeed normalized in battlegrounds, meaning that all level 60 players have their weapon skill set to the maximum value of 300. This means that any extra weapon skill above 300 will not have any effect on your damage output against other players in battlegrounds.

In your example, even though you have 305 maces skill due to your rogue talents, you will not receive any benefit from it in battlegrounds. Your weapon skill will be capped at 300 while inside the battleground, just like all other players.

It’s worth noting, however, that having a higher weapon skill can still be beneficial outside of battlegrounds, particularly in raiding. Having a higher weapon skill reduces your chance to miss, dodge, or have your attack blocked by an enemy, which can result in higher damage output over time.’ - ChaTgpt

It does but since melee hits won’t glance, the major benefit of weapon skill (minimizing glancing blow damage reduction) is lost.

Each point is +0.04% crit/hit, mitigates the same effects that your target’s bonus Defense provides (+0.04% dodge/parry/block per point)

Dont choose weapon skill for PvP purposes.
