Teleportation magic is blue magic. The dracthyr themselves reference this. We combined all the flight spower. We should get some teleports/portals. Maybe ones mages don’t have so we don’t conflict.
I look at evoker like it’s more of a “sorcerer” to a mage’s “wizard”.
They have a lot of magic innately, but they don’t know how it works on a deeper level. So more complex magic like portals evades them. Meanwhile a mage has studied the arcane for a long time and has a deeper understanding on how the magic works.
If they add new classes to Drakthyr, then I expect the talents that improve the racials will stay in their respective class trees. For example, the mage class has no access to anything that would improve a drakthyr’s racials. As a matter of fact, even their ‘dragon powers’ like deep breath would be left in the evoker spell list. And their aoe knockdown is only slight stronger than tauren warstomp, so I don’t think of it as all that powerful.
To be fair, they did something with druids. They gave them a portal to every dreamway through their order halls. I think it’d be cool for us to get a portal to dragon related area’s like a zone in dragonflight and places like wrymrest accord
I asked production director Pat Dawson and principal game designer (professions) Eric Holmberg-Weidler whether or not we can expect to see the Dracthyr take on another role other than Evoker, but according to Dawson it seems very unlikely.
This makes sense to me too. Mages are like real life engineers with a background in physics, doing what they do with a deep understanding of the rules of the universe… e.g. if I take arcane energy and poke in X, Y, and Z ways it produces fire of temperature A.
Evokers on the other hand work with magic in the same way a human rides a bicycle; there’s a brief phase of learning to be able to do it but it’s all riding on innately human abilities without any understanding of how or why they’re able to keep a bike upright, balanced, and moving forward.
