The lore they just made up for Drakthyr? No reason a group of lizards bred for combat wouldn’t know how to tank/melee. It’s just lazy writing and design.
So you are saying that adding more classes to the dracthyr would be a bad idea. I would love to get the reasoning behind that. I understand that you likely mean the class not getting more specs but we have to stop conflating the two as an inseparable thing.
While I’m not advocating for Evoker tanks I can answer this one. We already have a tank with a ranged threat tool. Angry Dave statue can keep enemies at range. It would only need a rework to share health with the tank, have a misdirection effect for the tanks threat, and have some flavor and polish put on it.
Isn’t there a balance issue with healers and dps too? Specifically with preservation, top players are saying it will not work with limited range in competitive content
No, but the racials have obviously been designed with a dracthyr=evoker mentality, so when new classes are made available to dracthyr, the racials will be massively nerfed. And of course people will complain when it happens, because for some reason people never see obvious things like that coming.
Also, dracthyr have a limited number of animations, and Blizzard simply doesn’t have the time to create the class-specific animations that would be required for other classes. It’s the same thing that delayed Kul Tirans until 8.1.5 in BfA, since they also had a new animation rig.
Enemies run right up to dave and beat the hell out of him, what on earth are you talking about?
Tanks are my favorite spec. Paladin Tanking was my favorite, but Battle for Azeroth and Shadowlands made them extremely bland. And for some reason, Blizzard went out of their way to make Paladins even worse for Dragonflight (IMHO). Their ‘shout out’ to Seals was pretty much the last straw for me (Blizzard: revamp Paladins).
So, my monk will likely become my new main, even though I’m not too keen on Blizzard’s version of Drunken Kung Fu. Class fantasy will always be the determining factor for me, in any game.
That said, I like Dracthyr, so I would like a Dracthyr tank…eventually. Blizzard has a lot to do with races (especially Kul Tirans and Worgen) and other classes, before they should bother with a Dracthyr tank. People need to deal with it.
Also, I’m not trying to ‘change your mind’, people take that meme way too seriously.
So its complaining for asking developers to add something to the game, using the channel they designed for such ideas? At least I have my supporting arguments which i cant really say those who don’t want the spec added in really do
also you
“whaaa casters never got the spot light let me be in the spot light blizzard”
Secondly, I agree with him on this fact, wholeheartedly. We are capable of beautiful, awesome, wholesome things. And yet…* gestures broadly at everything *
Thirdly, hi Brewa! Hope you’ve been doing well lately
He word for word stated spec to role ratio and you put words in his mouth and brought up different unrelated numbers. You then go on to somehow think that means total representation of players when he directly states…
Sir, it is you who is bringing nothing. He is at least giving reasons and responding to people’s dismal of the idea with logical counter points. Same goes for Gwenn and some others. If you dish it, be able to take it.
The racial thing is a big reason why that decoupling needs to happen sooner than later, people will be pissed if it happens now, but in 2-3 years more people will be pissed because “it was fine all this time”. In fact one could argue that doing it now and moving some of that power over to the class before launch would be the best option. Launch evokers wouldn’t change a bit and that means everything is ready for the drop later.
As to the statue it’s a starting point for the tank to not be in melee and the boss still staying put. Looking at the Wrathion fight. Having a Magma spike pop up at the bosses location that recieves all the threat from the tank and can be where they taunt from. But the hits to the spike damage the tank as well. The boss is still in location not chasing the ranged tank.
Mostly was just spitballing a quick idea there, it would need more polish on it, but a ranged tank might be possible with the right set up. In fact it could be a good Heroic risk/reward class/spec where it requires a higher skill floor and ceiling but also has a higher reward payout for that.
It’s impossible to do mechanics like boss cleaves with a ground-positioned thing, for the same reasons that pet tanks have never been a thing where tanks matter - the controls are too clunky and impossible to work with when you’re not actually there and watching what’s going on.
Imagine a tank dance like Mythic Lords of Dread and trying to do it with a ground-positioned totem or a hunter pet. What a nightmare.
it wouldnt have to be a full time tanking style as much as it could be a tanking utility/capability at their disposal for an encounter. Now that i think of it ox statue was super useful on SLG and had clutch plays in M+ as well
