Blizzard needs to hire this guy Tanwen
Please try to be constructive in your posts, share your experiences dealing with the current range restrictions! We’re all awkward looking gecko-people here.
that’d be really nice actually.
It does work though in Vault of the Incarnates in DF, Ofcourse it takes while to adjust, but they even said “future raids will have Evoker in mind”.
40yds isn’t needed, but 30 yds I personally think be a huge quality of life improvement baseline for Devastation and Preservation.
On Beta once healing hit 30yds felt so much better, yet they leave dps and utility at 25yds… having 2 ranges is clunky as hell.
Devastation would benefit greatly being 30yds, seriously go to a training dummy and go 30yds.
Empowered Spells should stay at 25yds though, they’ve said it several times they want us to weave in and out, this way we keep that play style.
This change keeps us mid range, true to their design philosophy but greatly feels better. We have the limitations of being mid range, that’s fine but let us use our whole kit mid ranged.
This is true, VoI is designed to be pretty Evoker friendly. I’m still curious as to what parses from top 10/20% guilds will look like because Evokers simply have more downtime in a lot of the fights.
Honestly, after playing with it for a few months it’s not as bad as my original reaction. I will say, though, that the 30 yards is way better than the 25 yards. But it is obnoxious having both range restrictions as heals.
That being said, in M+ at least, once the groups started realizing that you have to be mindful of where your evoker healer is… things got so much better. As far as raids go, couldn’t tell you cause I’ve only done LFR with this toon (since I don’t raid, I just do M+ and PVP). LFR I’ve noticed I move around a lot more than I do with other healers, but it wasn’t a miserable experience and I eclipsed other healers on the chart despite being such a low ilvl right now.
In PVP tho, the range thing suuuuuucks. Lord, it sucks. You’re basically in range for almost every Melee Gap Closer if you want to ever heal your own Melee, and lord forbid everyone runs in opposite directions. LOL.
Please give us further range. If not just let our nameplate distance be changeable so we can actually easily see when something is in range.
"Melee everyone stack on “A”
All Ranged stack on “B” and range the boss
“Evoker”…uuhhhhh
I think I’m good with the mid-range, just need to get used to it. For PVP much much easier to get DPS tunneled at that range then max range with other healers. Need to be on the move most of the time, which the evoker do very well.
I actually like the limited range, tbh, but you have to have something in return to make it feel less punishing. Imo, Devastation should play like a hunter. Just about everything should be castable while moving, to prevent this bad feeling of being out of range. This should really be the MOST mobile spellcaster
Tbh the real problem i think about give more power for the mid range, is the raid versus dungeon casting, im gonna talk just thinking as a healer.
In dungeon the distance is less limiting and tbh it made me enjoy healing as never did before, using the multiple movement skills and distances reductors make me think more on how and who to heal.
Then in raid… well I just did 2, but both felt horrible, I was always too far away, and heals and saves that my priesto could do with no drama became pretty bothersome as a evoker.
So giving more mobility/damage/utility/resistance fells pretty good for raids and pvp, I believe that dungeons would become a dractyr land only.
Tbh Now that I returned im gonna give a chance doing dragonflight raids and dungeons before form an opinion about the range, because in this moment Im not sure I know an answer to the problen.
As I said I love the range in dungeon and leveling, but fell really limiting in pvp and raids…
Maybe this is a better way of looking at it. But this also proposes a huge amount of work into basically setting the game up for a new playstyle / role.
I like the “Battle Mage” vibe. Fits em well imo.
But there needs to be a tradeoff. Obviously Evokers possess great mobility in a vacuum and Hover really helps. but Disentegrate and Breath / Surge sort of make it impossible to call them a “mobile class”. The tools are there, but the inherent design means those tools will never “cover” the weakness.
So realiatically, they need to be the bulkiest ranged DPS / Healer. Mail armor, Dragon people…makes sense.
A passive DR aura that reduces damage taken by 10-15% would probably be enough.
My whole OP could just be this. Lol
They mentioned this is a interview with the lead designer, he’s like you Deep Breath back into range…
So I guess there’s that solution, the only issue is Range Dps if stacked at 40yds will continue to dps while we just sit there looking good.
Maybe we will be forced to stack along with melee perhaps? I don’t know it’s just a guess.
Maybe they wanted a battle mage at first. Which would not be bad idea. But then they should give us some melee attacks as well, and give us more defense. Id really love to fight mith my claws or my tail or bite the ennemy, and finish off the enemy with a breath or a disintegrate
this would make the mid range work. empowered spells are big spells and need an external buff to cast while moving. This would then make us decide if two charges of hover is worth it.
“Dragon in the thick of the fight”
-Launches with no melee or tank spec
This is my best guess, will be interesting to see what Mythic raiders do when the content is actually live. My guess is at least one Evoker will come for the movement CD buff and considered melee for the sake of positioning.
