Evoker Tank Spec

Still think Evokers should have came with a tank spec :slightly_smiling_face: and also flying and not a dragon riding a dragon.

I think they could have developped a 3rd spec, not sure tank but at least maybe melee dps. Its like if they sticked to the idea that this class would have to be a 25y class and nothing else nor melee nor higher range, so it really limits the specs to 2, unfortunately, unless they find a way to implement a tank that fights at 25y range
 lol

Or at least be able to be warriors
They have a hard enough time with devo which looks like it was just thrown together, I’d hate to see what a third spec would look like or do to them.

Just tweak our abilities to have defensive and agro control. Its that easy. Id like to experiment with a caster tank.

I’d like to see Devastation get some sort of dip-in-dip-out mechanic, personally. Maybe it would go over horribly with how fight mechanics are working out this expansion, but I always liked Red Mage from FFXIV, and since Dragonflight is basically Blizzard’s ‘oh frick, the players are mad! Quick, copy the popular stuff’ expansion
>> << wink wink nudge nudge.

I would really like to see a Dracthyr tank spec though - but I also figure they’re kinda busy frantically tuning the current talent trees and don’t have time right now to do it. Still, it’d be cool, and personally, for me it’s mostly an immersion thing. I do love tank specs and I’d like to see it, but it also just feels WRONG that the ‘dragon’ race wears
mail armor (instead of plate), is ranged, and is comparatively squishy. Where’s my gdamn black dragonflight themed dragony tank? Cmon ._.

Being a race that has been sleeping for so long and just waken up, it would make sense that they get new abilities or talents or even specs as we progress through the expansion

Based on the way the Evoker talent tree is shaped with 3 treetop talents, plus all the impending stuff about Neltharion’s legacy as the Earth aspect, I’d be surprised if we don’t get an Evoker tank spec soon. Of course, if they give evokers an Earth tank spec before giving shaman one, my eyes will roll out of my head, but that’s Blizz.

See, I disagree. Each Hero class has 2 roles - tank/dps in the case of Death Nuggets and Demon Hunties, and dps/heal in the case of Evokers. We already have two three-role classes in Paladins and Druids (Druids have four if you want to split out ranged and melee dps). I am OK with having two roles for Evoker.

The problem is though we are locked to ONE class (yes yes I know; for now) but the sentiment still stands. We should have a tank spec. DKs have 3 specs (2 roles) why can’t we have 3 specs?

I believe in an interview with one of the developers they said specifically no tank spec for the Evokers. While that doesn’t mean their won’t be a class choice like warrior, I think and added spec won’t be a tank.

I believe the real problem here its not “Evoker” not having a tank spec. But rather “Dracthyrs” not having a tank spec.

I can bet that if from the go Dracthyr were able to be say, Warriors. Im sure no one would be asking for a tank spec for Evoker.

Just imagine how many people would have loved to play a frontline dragon tank, on the dragon themed expansion?. Instead, if you are a tank main you will have to force yourself to either not play your favorite spec on this expansion, or not play the shiny new race on this expansion at all.

I love my lizard, but i just cannot feel the same level of enjoyment i feel when playing say my warrior or my monk.

Blizzard should have allowed Dracthyrs to be warriors from day one since we have seen in the legacies videos and from the logs that not all dracthyrs are evokers. Or if they were keen on keeping them as evokers only for this expansion then have the class have 3 specs to fit all the roles so everyone could play the new race with the role they enjoy the most.

And you might say “they will probably open more classes to them in the future” and i don’t doubt that. But that will probably not happen anytime soon in this expansion. I wanted to be the “dragon race” in the “Dragon expansion” with my favorite spec. Not having to wait for the next one to be able to

Well we got a tank/DPS hero class with DH

now we got a healer/DPS class with evoker.

Next hero class will be tank/healer with no DPS roles. Lol

The most unpopular hero class released.

They can transmog their weapons to 2h swords maces and i think axes which no other caster can do so im leaning towards them getting a melee spec

I think the reason they did not allow at start other classes to dracthyrs is they actually had plans to make a 3rd spec later for evoker. Maybe they wanted as many evokers as possible to prevent having for instance a dracthyr warrior that could not have a chance to explore evoker tank spec. Just an idea

Evokers might get a tank spec. Emberthal is shown with a 2h weapon, and she’s likely to be what they’re going to base the 3rd Evoker spec on. I don’t think they’re going to make a copy of Enhancement Shaman, so it’s likely going to be a tank.

They said a tank doesn’t make sense for what evoker does, which is flying around the battlefield using breath attacks. They thought about it at the very beginning but dropped the idea in favor of a ranged dps/healer class.

The description of the third spec is also that of a field commander that organizes forces and identifies weaknesses in enemies, which is not something you’d find up in the trenches taking punches. I’ll eat crow if i’m wrong, but the new spec is going to be another ranged dps spec with an emphasis on support (we have several dps specs like this now)

Also, when you think about it. When describing it, they’ve gone to great lengths to avoid using the very simple words that would describe a tank spec like “protect” or “shield” or “defend”. They’ve instead chosen the word “augment”, which does not sound like something a tank does.

Neltharion could have easily said “Emberthal, you will wield the power of the Black Dragonflight to defend these lands and stand in the faces of our enemies.” But he doesn’t.

Also her weapon means nothing, all evokers can wield all 2h weapons except polearms.

If we’re basing the 3rd spec on Emberthal, we have an image of her from the past, and that image is her wielding a 2h weapon. Yeah, all Evokers can use 2H weapons, but we have no weapon abilities to utilize that weapon, so it’s bizarre that we have access to weapons that are completely useless to the Evoker class.

Think about what Morgan Day said in his interview with Towelie:

  1. We’ve never created a new spec for a class before.
  2. Tanks were a glimmer in our eye when we first developed the class
  3. Don’t expect a tank spec in 10.1.

I really don’t believe they can go much further with ranged DPS given how barren Devastation is. I mean what are you going to do? Give us another spec with 25yd range fire spells and some ret-style buffs? I really think they’re going to go Melee, with us utilizing an Enhancement-style tank spec that allows us to use instant cast spells and 2H weapons. It just makes sense.

Enhancement Shaman does a good job of augmenting groups, and is an example of a caster class having a melee option, just like Evokers.
