Evoker leveling

How does Devoker feel like leveling? I main a warlock and want to give this class a try.

So far I’m not impressed. It seems like it takes forever, and more or less I just Azure Strike everything because it’s so much faster to kill things with. By the time I actually cast a longer casted attack I could have already had the target dead, and Azure Strike can hit more than one target, so really it’s quite boring. It does not feel very well put together like the days of old that gave you your talents one by one in a way to include them into your rotation. Nope nearly everything they give you one shots everything. So I am left wondering what my priority list actually is suppose to look like.

It really is IMO a very poorly designed leveling path.

On a second note, you ever get the feeling that something was made to make you want to use a boost? Well imo that is exactly how this feels so far. Some of the stuff looks really cool though. Shooting blue fire out your mouth that auto locks your moving target looks cool. But really a 3 stage AoE (hold down to cast) what a waste of time in low level content. Maybe useful in a dungeon where things don’t instant die or if you have a pack of 3 or more.

I’ll give the class points for looks, and you can fly nearly right off the bat, but it’s dragon flight and not normal flight, which actually sucks for low level short distance flights. Longer distances and just for fun of zooming around ya, that’s cool, but short distances ground mount is faster or just plain walking can be faster.

I would rather actually level through the new content than use a boost, I waited a while for them to patch quite a few things before trying this new expansion.

Yep I did the exact same thing, last thing I wanted is to level to max just to find out they massively changed the class (just like they’ve done before) making the class I was playing into trash, and I mean mainly changing the way the class plays, not how strong it is.

And I’m glad I did, many total reworks in the last few weeks. What gets me so far is the feeling that every class plays near the same within certain groups. IMO the game has lost so much of the feel of specialized priority rotations. Everything has become normalized.

Generally speaking, in the open world most things would die very quick to a fire breath shotgun or eternity surge. Things that live longer can get melted by a disintegrate.

Also, Devastation hasn’t really changed at all since it was made except for the part of our mastery scaling and Dragonrage being made simpler.

Yep, and that is why it feels like a ploy to pay for boost. Like when do you start to do a real priority rotation? Oh near max level… They really need to fix their leveling strat is really is awful, and I don’t think it’s a one class issue either.

You won’t start feeling the end game rotation until the end game when you have all of the talents. The priority system is very simple though
Use Fire Breath
Use Eternity Surge
Spend essence on disintegrate

Dev leveling was super easy imo. Very easy to kill with Living Flame, Shattering Star, Disintegrate. For anything tougher than an average you have 2 defensives and both empowered spells, or for group pulls Dragonrage and both empowers will get the job done. Once you’ve gotten points in Scalecommander you have Deep Breath as a 45-60 sec CD that annihilates mobs, which is easy to alternate with Empowered pulls and Disintigrate pulls.

I’m not complaining about the difficulty, it’s the lack of having to use more than 1 or 2 buttons nearly for 70+lvls. That really pretty bad design IMO. And they wonder why new players or returning players get to max level and suck so bad. I wonder…

Devastation is a front loaded burst spec. It is also one of the simplest DPS specs. If your complaint is that leveling is too easy that is a general thing and not a class specific one.

I enjoyed it. It’s a simple rotation with lots of mobility and slows. You’ll figure out what you’ll need to do for certain mobs and how to set up your DMG and cycle defensives.

You have fire breath, eternity surge, living flame, disintegrate, azure strike and pyre as devastation nearly right off the bat. Then shattering star not long after. What more do you want?

Edit: i lvled a devoker 10-20 and now im nearly full honor gear. I had a blast the entire time so maybe the class just isnt for you.

Pally is a class that if i wanted to lvl all classes, id have to boost it because its too boring for me, as an example.

Its a decent mix of old(since classic) mage/warlock grinding.

You snap a bunch of mobs to a location then kill them. If you try and 1v1 it’ll feel like you’re playing siphon life voidwalker between cooldowns. A lot of quests can be 1 or 2 pulled, so it can be fun just going through sniping the kill quests.

I just finished leveling this evoker, and it felt very smooth. I did quests, dungeons, and Timewalking dungeons. I love the gameplay loop of Scalecommander even if I’m not the best yet at timing/aiming my Empower Spells to proc Mass Disintegrate. My only deaths were when I used Soar and landed next to a group of mobs and couldn’t take back off right away.

The whole point of leveling is to not only just experience the open world but also learn more about your class. Leveling characters now feels really nice - a good mix of difficulty and ease. Can it be slow? Absolutely. But it isn’t awful enough to use a 70 boost.

My only deaths happened when i tried experimenting on one shot rotations with multiple mobs and just died xD
