Evoker and Transmog

With Dragonflight officially winding down with season 4 and The Dark Heart campaign I think its time we have a little talk about Evokers, Dracthyr, and their available transmogs.

I’ve personally mained evoker for all of Dragonflight and I’ve really enjoyed the class aside from a few quibbles (dat range though). My biggest gripe though, and I’ve had it all expansion, is the lack of transmog on the Dragon form.

Transmog is one of those rare pieces of player expression that allows us to truly make a character our own. Now I’m not a mega-collector that has every piece of gear that could ever drop for my class but the when I see a good looking set I want to go out and farm for it. I understand that making each and every single piece of mail gear work with the Dracthyr skeleton is a lot to ask for and could cause a ton of issues especially around the existing barbershop customizations but not even being able to use the tier sets that only Dracthyr will be able to use feels awful.

At least we have the belts and shoulders though… right?

Well yes and no. While the Shoulders are often the most prominent part of a tier set and can really help define the silhouette they don’t really work all that well outside of visage form. The biggest issue with only having these be visible is that they don’t coordinate with the barbershop armor customizations which kind of leads to a Burning Crusade style mish mash of aesthetics.

So where does this leave us? We either use our 2 pieces that we have and hope we can build a barbershop appearance that will appeal to our sensibilities or we just have to stay in visage form and shift into our dragon form during combat meaning we are just fancy elves/humans.

So how do we fix this issue? I personally would love to see more armor that works on the draconic form, if nothing else at least have the tier sets work with it. Another way to possibly remedy this would be to add more color options to the barbershop armors so we can at least coordinate our sets to work with our tier sets (maybe even make this a reward for unlocking the corresponding appearances).

With the end of Dragonflight in sight and War Within just around the corner, everyone is looking forward to the new shiny weapons and armor sets hopefully Evokers won’t be left behind as a relic of the past.

Was inspired to post this here since a similar thread was getting traction over on reddit and figured if we make enough noise maybe we’ll be acknowledged.

I rolled an Evoker and was really surprised by this. If they can make transmogs work for Worgen, why not Evokers in dragon form? Makes no sense and reeks of lazy work.

Working theory that I heard is that the modular bits that comprise the variable “builds” and body sizes for the Dracthyr are really just fleshy bits of gear that occupy that visible slot. And that’s why they can only show gear on the belt and shoulders.

But that’s just a theory. A game theory thanksforwatchin.

I wish they add an option to hide transmog on Dracthyr form I hate how you’re forced to show the belt or shoulders.

A similar option for Worgen would be cool also like having the helmet on human form and off on Worgen.

Devs should definitely start by separating visage mog from dragon mog. Small but will make a huge difference.

They could also, at least, add gloves and boots to mog. I don’t know how the whole thing would work with wings, and tail, and all those traits, but that might help with customization.

If they were going to have it this restricted, they really should have let you pick your shoulder/belt appearance from the barber shop. And kept it separate from your visage transmog.

It’s kinda bad how the waist mog is incomplete. Only some 3D objects appear.

I assume it was because they wanted to be able to design the dracthyr textures without having to keep to the restricted layout that the rest of the races use. What I mean is, this is what all the character model base textures look like:

All the chest, arm, and leg armor textures are basically just pasted over that in the corresponding areas. I don’t know how the dracthyr are set up (haven’t looked around in the texture files since BfA), but I figure it’s laid out differently…since they have more options than the other races.

Could be wrong though, and it might have been a purely design decision, rather than a technical limitation they didn’t want to deal with.

at the very least they should be making new options for the barbershop every expac if not every patch, we deserve to wear our tiersets in dragon form

I think it would be cool if they made new barber shop armor appearances that went along with the tier sets. When you unlock a tier slot for your visage form, you also unlock a version of it, even if modified to work, in the barber shop for drac form.

I’ve pitched the idea a few times that after each ‘Tier’ set we complete on Dracthyr Evokers, we should unlock a bunch of customisation options of armour we can select via the Barber-Shop — Such of which that matches the aesthetic.

Alternatively, give an option where visage form is used for most combat animations aside from the specifically dragon-focussed abilities – Like the tail whip, wing beat & flying through the air breathing fire. You could simply just have a mix then switch back & forth depending on the abilities.
