If it is a 3rd spec, very neat.
This would a cool new way to introduce another type of combat mechanic ![]()
Wowhead is taking the “boost/heal” part of placeholder text way too literally. To me it reads “play Preservation and heal the friendly NPCs or Devastation and damage the enemy NPC”. This idea of a support role is beyond stupid, but leave it to Wowhead to extrapolate the tiniest bit of information into the worst of takes… If there is a third specialization coming to Evoker it will be a tank or melee damage dealer.
Still pretty cool of a concept though. I agree with the tank or melee for sure.
Wait til it doesnt happen and people start complaining about it on the forums.
FFS bliz where’s my support evoker spec you promised!
I would love a support spec but I agree tank/melee is most likely what a 3rd spec will
Watch this quest end up being an evoker bracers with a Use:
If they made the evoker a caster tank I’d be all in. Tanks are quite literally supporting their teammates.
I somehow believe it will be a quest using their current specs tough.
I hoped they’d do an Earthwarden tank spec but I’m not counting on it. ![]()
Anybody who believes there’s going to be a third Evoker spec…
I’ve got some ocean front property in Kansas to sell you.
How does this work at all? Mobs run into melee range of the tank.
Datamined right next to that paladin holy leap spell.
didn’t buff classes end by WOTLK? I recall a lot of lot of crying about not being able to buff and DPS/tank/heal as well as pure classes in the Holy Trinity.
Imagine if there was a hidden questline to unlock 3rd Demon Hunter spec but nobody discovered it yet.
Like Terky staying hidden for a decade.
Support would be interesting, though I feel like it would not work for dungeon groups, unless it boosted the damage enough of the rest of the party to compensate for one less DPS. Assuming they aren’t filling the tank or healer roles.
^ What he said.
It could be unlocking other classes for Dracthyr as well.
The word “Adamanthia” is really suggestive of a tank spec based on black dragonflight. Probably be called Earthwarden or something. We already have a tank defensive cooldown too, and it is black dragonflight based.
The party pooper is here everyone. Pack up the fun.
One possible explanation is that the NPCs in that fight have a mechanic that makes them deal more damage at high HP or something like that, so that healers don’t take unreasonably long to finish the fight solo. IIRC they did something like that in one of the legendary questlines, back when those were a thing.
Although “new specialization remembered” is pretty suggestive, adding a new specialization mid-expansion would be unprecedented and going outside the trinity at all, let alone mid-expansion, seems very unlikely.
On the other wing, one of the datamined 10.0.7 questlines has a note from a black dragon reporting to Neltharion that “The extraction of black dragonflight essence from the dracthyr has gone smoothly, though I worry it may permanently cripple their abilities.” What if it non-permanently crippled their abilities? That would provide an in-game justification for introducing a tank spec (much requested by players) after the dracthyr figure out how to get their Earthwarder mojo back (something that could logically happen in Aberrus and/or with the cooperation of a new Black Aspect).
But there’s a LOT of hopium in this theory. Literally the only time a spec has been added to a class EVER was the feral/guardian split, and even then, both toolkits and the roles they filled were already part of the class since vanilla, they just were in this weird dual-purpose tree that was a balance nightmare. And I think that was in an X.0 patch, not in the middle of an expansion (Blizzard has stated in the past that they prefer to make really large changes in expansion resets).
I’d love a 3rd spec – make it a tank and give it a Draconic form, either perma like bear or intermittent like DH.
I’d dig support specs but it would be such a huge change that there would need to be more than 1 spec and party comp might even need to shift. For example, a dedicated slot. The implications that would bring, in terms of changes to the game, are huge.
Also, as much as I dig support as a sort of old-school RPG concept, I don’t think WoW’s community would handle it well. Imagine how annoying it would be to have whispers from party members begging or demanding your best CDs, being blamed for a wipe because you buffed the hunter instead of the rogue etc.
Nah… we’re probably good.
A tank spec, though, with a beefy dragon form, would really fix a lot of the issues people had with the race/class in terms of aesthetic.
It seems improbable but not impossible. I remember being called crazy when predicting allied races and we did get them for the end of the expac ![]()
Can someone data mine where I left my car keys?
