Everytime i think of world of warcraft

i feel like akama from the black temple cinematic.

where he’s walking through the halls, remembering the good times and the terrible events that happened, his people being massacred, him becoming a broken, the temple becoming corrupted, etc.

it’s… not a good feeling.

…i’d post a link to the trailer, but i can’t for some reason.

man I don’t entirely agree with the OP but old warcraft music was something else compared to what we have now. It’s still good but the older stuff was better.

In this metaphor, I feel like Akama after Black Temple has been liberated and slowly the Ashtongue are in the process of rebuilding it.

DF has been a lot better than previous expacs in terms of the way the game is designed. It’s not perfect, it has its problems, but I’ve been playing more than I have in the past 6 years. To the point where it’s a little distressing that I’ve been playing WoW and not making time to play my backlog of games which continues to grow longer every time there is a sale.

that’s fair. i just remember mists of pandaria, and legion and feel nostalgic as all-heck, then remember it was followed-up by battle for azeroth, shadowlands, and dragonflight and just… well, i feel tired and a little depressed.

dragonflight is an ‘ok’ expansion, but it’s just… not as good as it used to be, y’know?
i started in MoP, so that’s why i remember it fondly.

Then I’d suggest a break. Find some other games to enjoy for a while until you can enjoy WoW again. Or it’s always possible you may find something more fun for you and you take a longer or permanent break, which is okay, too. We aren’t married to WoW.

That’s because a lot of it used to be an actual orchestra and we had Russell Brower. I miss those days, but I still listen to the old soundtracks. Especially Cata.

I also get sad thinking about WoW as of late.
This used to be the Warhammer inspired immersive world of our dreams.

Now it’s a pander fest for lobby game players and people who wish they were playing Sims.

Dragonflight is a “safe” expansion.

After going ham with the cosmic nonsense story-wise and overabundance of systems gameplay-wise, Dragonflight brought us back to Azeroth, with a traditional fantasy trope (Dragons), and no mandatory side-grinds (covenants, corruptions, HoA, AP grind, etc).

For those that were exhausted from those 2 things in the last few expansions, Dragonflight is a good break. For those that didn’t really care, Dragonflight is barebones and forgettable.

I suspect the story will ramp up into cosmic stuff again next expansion.
Systems will probably stay optional/cosmetic again though.

Also just worth noting that your first couple expansions are always going to be more fondly remembered than your… you know… 5th. It’s when you were still exploring and learning. Personally I started (in earnest, anyway) in the 2nd half of WotLK, but didn’t own all of the expansions until shortly after Cata Dropped, so WotLK was my “new and shiny” phase, Cata was my “first endgame” experience, and MoP is where I have the most memories with the internet friends I still talk to today (it was also my tryhard phase).

Everything after that is just kinda… alright? Still have fun with the game (less these days, but still have fun regardless), but it’s not as memorable and that’s just to be expected, ya’ know? No matter how well or how poorly the game’s design has gone.

As legitimate as many complaints about modern WoW are, I do think a lot of people tend to get lost in the sauce and forget that they’ve been playing the same game for potentially (almost) 2 decades and that it’s entirely normal to lose interest, and that maybe, it’s not entirely the game’s fault that they’re not having the fun they used to.
