Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been thinking a lot about the state of the game and to be frank I think it sucks that it has gotten to this point with me.
I’ve played this game for years and I truly love its lore, characters and world. However, it is severely lacking in innovation game play and we all know this. I’ve played a multitude of MMOs that have come out with some real innovation concepts that I cannot understand “WHY” WOW has not incorporated these ideas into their system.
Every expansion that comes out is the same, but its just painted different and it needs to stop because its losing its nostalgia. We see it on the forums with people who are constantly upset about this or that but those are not the issues. The real issue is game play and story telling. So here goes everything and hopefully people will get what I’m talking about.
What I feel is missing in the game to keep people like me engaged.
Class/Skill experimentation - Do I really need to say more here, I think you all get it.
Creating environments that bring people together for both PVE and PVP - Nuff said.
Faster content updates - A company who gets a monthly fee from its subscribers, plus whatever they sell on their game store should be more then enough to pump out content like their is no tomorrow. If F2P games can do this then so can WOW.
Needs a major graphic update - 15 years, its time for a major update for the whole world of Azeroth and beyond.
Needs a major combat engine update - 15 years of the same combat system, might want to add things like dodge/roll or other mechanics you find in other MMOs.
New questing system - Again 15 years of the same questing system with little to know innovational changes to how we gain experience.
Random open world events - I do not understand why we don’t have this.
Personal story w/choices - Again, why we don’t have this is beyond me.
Utilize our mounts for in game questing - Another fantastic idea done by a F2P game called Guild Wars 2. You take flight away and ticked off a bunch of customers and not once did you realize you had a gold mine in front of you.
Zone bosses - Zones are important and having more bosses to kill for Achievment purposes makes the game better in my opinion.
Armor dyes - Some of the gear you create are ugly so why not leave it to the players to be creative.
Better character customization - We could use Height adjustments or body type adjustments and maybe some facial changes to give people a truly unique look.
Anyways this is what I feel has been missing and what I think they should incorporate into the game to keep people playing.
If you agree with me that is awesome but if you disagree with me, then that is OK to because everyone has an opinion.
Rifts and GW2 style of experiment I found to be better then WOWs
Not saying the game is terrible but it is lacking in innovation compared to other MMOs. I think what keeps WOW at the top is the fans but even some of us can realize its not the best on the market in certain aspects.
In what way? I haven’t played either of those games so I’m having trouble seeing what the problem is. I think that there is quite a bit of experimentation that can be done within certain specs - For example, I found a build that does 80% of my regular damage without ever having to cast Aimed Shot (because it is hard to stand still sometimes). There is also a lot that can be done to change your gameplay. Have you played around with your talents? You might enjoy choosing more active ones to passive ones.
Lost me here. Number 1 way to tell an MMORPG is trendy trash is if it has a roll button that gives you iframes. Lets you know its a bandwagon hopper and not taking the RPG part seroiusly.
If “graphics update” means, “same art direction, but higher resolution”, I emphatically agree — Eastern Kingdoms + Kalimdor and Outland especially would gain a lot from being brought up to the same standard on display in BfA and Shadowlands.
If “graphics update” means, “replace WoW’s art direction with pseudorealism”, that’s a big no from me dawg. WoW should look like Warcraft, not Fantasy RPG #3277953.
Combat system changes could be good, but I do not think bringing in adventure game mechanics is the answer.
If they added this, could apply only to newly made appearances due to the way most armor textures are painted.
Do you think a revamp on WoW would bring in new player of get lost players to return?
I don’t, I think that ship sailed a long time ago, At this point they should be thinking of a sequel that will retain existing players and get a new generation of players .
I mean, it is fun. Movement bursts with iframes are an important part of stuff like fighting games and Dark Souls style games. But Dark Souls had to have a carefully constructed stamina system to make it work in an RPG where your power is supposed to come from your character, not your fingers. It was janky as hell in a bandwagon hopper like Guild Wars 2.
I don’t know if zone bosses fall under this category but I also feel that other zones in WoW should have World Quests to improve the levelling experience.
Personally, I feel there are much more important issues that need to be dealt with like bugs, phasing issues, inconsistent scaling, things that actually effect game play negatively.
And, given that very comprehensive list, I also feel you would be happier playing a different game.
