Ironic given how much this forum hates him. I don’t really understand why Brack left, though. He wasn’t apart of the “Cosby Couch”. Is this just a saving face tactic? I mean, the guy hadn’t even been president for a full year.
We really don’t have all the details to come.
He’s arrogant but he’s not a creep. And not everybody is getting canned, but many people are.
Ion needs to get fired for his poor performance for being the WoW lead. I don’t think he was involved in any of the J. Allen/Alex Afrasiabi creep stuff.
Because he was a lawyer and isn’t stupid. No way that dude was engaging in any of that behavior.
He might not have been in on the suite, but he knew about it and failed to dismiss the bad actors.
IMO he just needs to be reinstated as raid design lead. That’s what he’s good at and he’s been doing a good job with the raids even now. He should not be making calls on PvP or open world systems, because that’s not his game and they never should have expected him to know how to make those things fun (which he doesn’t).
Brack was disagreeing with Blizzard, they might have asked him to step down because of it. More likely he quit because he doesn’t want to be connected with the problems and image Blizzard has made for itself. But we can only speculate. They did seem to part ways amicably and Brack is not connected to the lawsuit so far as we know.
I don’t know about Ion, but I presume he wasn’t a part of the harassment. If he wasn’t, there’s not really a reason to fire him… right? Just because he’s not really a likeable person doesn’t mean he sexually harasses women or anything.
Personally I’ve never liked Ion but I really don’t get the point of this thread. Is there some context I’ve missed?
He’s been president since 2018. He’s been president for the entire duration of the investigation into the company by the State of California.
Oh, my mistake. I thought it was more recent than that.
Brack kind of inherited the whole mess, but to be fair he didn’t do the sweeping changes the company needed either.
Imagine coming in on day 1 and the secretary being all: “Sir, your 2:00 is going to be in the Atrium, I have your lunch order in the fridge whenever your ready, there’s an attorney on the phone from the state of California concerning 2 decades of sexual harassment we’ve been keeping under wraps for monetary reasons, and your rainbow shirts have just arrived.”
And he’s like: “What… could you repeat that attorney part?”
Their the cards he was dealt, which were less than ideal, but he didn’t play them correctly either. He should have just stated what the issue was, apologized to the playerbase, put in very simple and direct terms what he was going to do about it, and then do it. Basically pull a Yoshi P. and be an extremely upfront and honest guy concerned about player enjoyment and staff wellbeing more than anything else. We didn’t get that… and here we are.
IDK anything about the 2 people co-leading now. Maybe something good, Maybe something bad… Mister Pinchy does not know!
I like that they are bringing in a female co-lead, but at this point it seems more of a virtue signal than meaningful change… but time will tell. Hoping for the best!
ion doesn’t need to be canned…i don’t think he understands fantasy or how the players feel though. So I think someone else should just direct the rest of the game.
He understands encounters, numbers and raid design better than anyone else at the company or even compared to anyone else that currently plays the game. That’s my feeling on it. he’s been around since back in the days.
keep ion as an encounter specialist or w/e but get a game dev that is more personable and communicates more as dev in charge i think.
did he have hire/fire power over them?
They equate “player engagement” with fun, since they don’t know what “fun” is qualitatively outside of raiding.
Yeah, I hate ion in the role he has now. Good raid designer, but I just can’t see him doing any sort of D&D roleplay campaign or anything of that nature.
Because Ion’s not a part of the lawsuit.
This 1000%. That’s leadership. Finding out about a problem, acknowledging the problem, and then taking actions on said problem.
There’s no reasonable way a person can argue that Brack didn’t know about the situation. There’s no reasonable way to say he wasn’t aware they were being probed. He had to know about either the instances of sexual harassment, or at the very least the investigation. That’s why he resigned (more likely was asked to step down) because he did nothing. He put out some phony baloney letter talking about a famous feminist and everyone could see exactly what is was, a pure cop-out letter. The dude maybe didn’t start this while he was President, but he certainly didn’t even try to address it.
That’s why he’s gone.
if only these people had… i dunno. common sense?
things will be different…
He doesn’t need to be lead because he does good work on raid and dungeon instances. He just needs to step down from the spot and find someone who can improvise in the areas he lacks at. Cosmetics and etc as whole need a new QOL to make WoW appealing again. Bring back profession specs back, do away with systems and no longer need to grind to fly anymore. Once you have flying you can fly anyway regardless of expansion release.
What will also bring new players in is removing the restriction for allied races. You get the allied races from purchasing that specific expansion without doing a rep grind saving the time consumption nonsense. I believe FFXIV has that method already so WoW developers need to take notes from FFXIV developers because they too took notes when playing WoW before departing from their game.
Please explain what you mean by ‘everyone’.
