But no one actually talks about why it’s bis. Where is the evidence?
I’m pretty sure the websites that list this content explain why. Wowhead does, for sure.
I was just at two places and it doesn’t give any reasoning behind any of it. Just google wow classic bis and it’s the first two options, both of which seem to be considered the source of this crap.
Sometimes stat priorities are pretty obvious, and even some error in the stat weights won’t change much.
Like Kréia said, most of these sites explain it.
However you’re absolutely free to dispute the findings. Simcraft and such are starting to get set up for classic.
Did you go to wowhead? I was just reading about Mage BiS yesterday for each tier. It’s pretty detailed.
That is all just the same thing, a bunch of words saying what items you should equip, but it doesn’t say WHY they are the best in slot. I want to see crunched numbers that clearly explains why they think some stats matter more than others.
Let’s just look at Mage, for instance. Why do people think that +frost, or just +spell, damage is better than intelligence? What is the math behind it that states it’s better than just straight intelligence, which gives you more mana to cast spells and more crit for those spells.

BiS lists are always just about throughput/output. If it’s close between two items, I’ll make my own decision based on survivability.
Like, these BiS lists have Shadow spell power items above Warlock tier 2 in some cases. A couple damage VS tons of int, stamina and resistances, I’d use the T2 every time.
If you’re thinking something else go for it, a lot of time people cling to the first thing they see. It might be false information after all
I’m not looking for opinions on what to do, I’m asking where is the evidence that started this bis buzzword and meme.
I thought BiS was something around since vanilla
Sims, probably.
That’s not a BiS topic. You just want basic information on stats. Anything about BiS is going to bypass that assuming that if you reached 60 then you already understand the numbers.
You seem incredibly lazy, 2 google searches and complaining other people havnt done enough work for your satisfaction…
There is ALOT of information out there on bis lists and why stat weights are what they are.
Every class I’ve seen has a discord with constant theory crafting and data comparisons from pserver to classic information.
There might have been some items that were obviously better than others, but I don’t remember the craze of bis back at launch that’s going on right now. The difference here though is that everyone knows what the stuff is and where to get it, then didn’t know it back then.
People who break down BIS have had since the end of vanilla to figure it all out, that’s why is exists now.
Insults me, then tells me there is information out there, but doesn’t link it “because I need to do my own work”. Pretty typical I guess.
Int doesn’t increase the damage of your spells, that’s why spell damage is better for increasing your damage.
But it DOES give you more mana, which means more spells, which means more damage, and this is on top of the extra crit percent.
Warlock has 2 talents in the demo tree off the top of my head that benefit from critical strikes. One increases crit damage by 50% and another boosts all damage by 20% following a critical
Here is an example; I have an item with +27 int. That’s roughly an extra 405 mana, which is two extra casts of frost bolt. Why would I drop that for an item that just gives me an extra 30 frost damage? Ok, frost damage applies to all casts, but if you’re dropping all of your big int gear for a bunch of “better” +spell damage, you’re doing less crits, and you have less casts overall. So, where is the math that says that is 100% better than just stacking extra int for both the extra casts and crits?
